I don't 'mind' tea, and sometimes its my beverage of choice, but if you want a coffee, a tea ain't gonna cut it. If I've no alcoholic options then I might as well let the zombies get me.

I hear you on that Deeps, i LOVE real coffee, but i don't drink it as much these days, 1 cup of fresh brewed as my first of the day then switch to instant if i want a second one , then it's tea for the rest of the day

You'll have to look into ways of making your own home brewed alcohol :) or, if all else fails wear the tinfoil hat :tinfoil and sleep your way through the apocalypse ;)

Were currently in a slow decent, I reckon its gonna keep going slowly before just exploding into chaos. It just takes one riot to start it all off, just hope I got all I need for when it happens. I guess you can never truly know what will happen so im just going to prep for a slow decent and a sudden SHTF situation, when the time comes im sure I will be ready.

I agree with the slow descent scenario, and yes, I think we're at the start of it right now.

The great tea and coffee debate  I'd love to grow them both, but I don't think either of them are quite there for our climate, sorry!

Dicon - the only thing I'd suggest in addition to your post - which is great! - is that if you *do* have a house fire, you have a BOB you can pick up as you run out the door, or drop from the windowledge - a notebook with your family, financial and insurance details, a flash drive backing up your computer, a change of clothes, your favourite comfort food - the fire brigade will help you, of course they will, but having your information on hand can be unbelievably valuable, after the stress of something like a housefire, or even a flood.

Having a detached workshop I have a smaller than my normal bob in there just in case the big bob which is in the house is lost or I can't easily get to it with a micro SD card a SD and usb adaptor and a otg cable with that palm size bundle I can hook it up to almost any computer / tablet or my mobile

Oh and extra tea bags :tinfoil
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

I agree with all who think the slow descent is here and picking up pace and your suggestion for the bob is good, I have photocopied driving licences, passports, birth certs.etc too. hoping this would make things easier in the event of needing to prove such things after a fire or whatever. I will now add to my bob, hadn't thought of it. I gave a copy to my son when I did them, to keep at his home as i hoped we wouldn't both go up in flames on the same day!

I have ruled out zombies, ain't seen any yet, and the Hollywood scenario of the apocalypse sounds exciting, but I hope implausible. I favour the slow drip, drip of power cuts, attacks on the banks computers by a country way to the east ( not the Japanese ). My local Co-op had a problem one day with the machines unable to accept cards. Lots of people went outside and hunted out cash machines. The ones that were working anyway. I remember not too long ago, the chaos caused by one banks computer failure, anyone with that bit of plastic could't buy petrol or food, or draw cash out. Multiply that and add in a few more computer attacks and off goes the power, the hospitals. Can anyone think of anything these days that isn't controlled buy a computer? So, I'm not getting a BOB but am hunkering down ( I'm too old for heading for the hills ) while the country slowly unravels. Hopefully the Army will be stable enough to bring a little order. As for Zombies, there are going to be a lot of near enoughs with cold turkey calling the shots, drugs, booze, ciggys, there are going to be a lot of withdrawals going on. Not a pretty scenario. I will miss the coffee though. :(

Dicon

who has a tendency to waffle.

I used to believe this was the most likely scenario, a long slow decent, maybe over sevral years or decades.

However, I now think if it came to pass the decent would happen much, much quicker.

There's a book by a fella called Jared Diamond: How societies choose to fail or survive that might be interesting for you.

There's also a Ted Talk that explores some of the ideas in his book. He has the most excellent comb over I've seen.
