I have been carrying this bag too and from my work van and car everyday for quite some time now, the reason i question it is that i have barely if ever had to go in it. During the winter i also attach a crusader cook set so i can make a coffee if i get stuck out in the cold.
So did i get sucked in by all this, have i just been lucky, or am i just prepared with forethought enough that i do not get into trouble?
I find that i can get away with my pocket contents alone in most cases.
I think i am going to have a big rethink, have any of you found this has happened to them, i understand that situations change, but in all this the basic preps we do are the same?

Re: Questioning your EDC
the one day you`ll need it , you`ll not have it . better to have and not need ...
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .
Re: Questioning your EDC
That's how I see it, if you've got the space and it's not much effort on your part then I'd keep going with it. I'm still working on Mrs Deeps to keep stuff in her car, if and when I get round to driving its going to be an Aladdin's cave of bits and bobs.unsure wrote:the one day you`ll need it , you`ll not have it . better to have and not need ...
Re: Questioning your EDC
I'll go against the above 2 replies and agree with you - do you really need to be carrying that lot around with you everywhere you go??
I would class that as more of a GHB which could be kept in the car or workplace, I really can't see the need for carrying around things like the SAS hand book or VX2R radio and antenna with you everywhere you go.
As you say, you use the stuff in your pockets, I'm the same, my EDC fits in my pockets, on my key ring and in my wallet and that's it. Anything else stays in the boot of the car rarely if ever to be looked at.

Re: Questioning your EDC
I knew it would prevoke mixed reaction, i totaly get the "when you need it you wont have it" i have always thought like this, but that is also why my wife would say i am border line hoarder!
i come home with stuff from every bootsale i go to, i have really curbed what i buy now, only stuff that you cannot buy or stuff i know is a bargin, but ive stopped buying bargins just because they are!
This response pac is more like a GHB you are right, i think i just need to rethink the whole thing, i have proven that i can get more than enough "survival" gear in a tabaco tin, so i think my EDC needs to be down sized into a mollee pouch or something, i have alot of great stuff, but i recon this pac at the min is more along the lines of a small crisis box, something you would need in a disaster situation, not my EDC?
ok, time to adjust.

Spot on, knowledge (and skill) is the best piece of equipment or tool that you can carry with you.munchh wrote:Just had a thought, mabie i now have more knowledge, i have realised i dont need all this stuff, the more i carry in my head the less stuff i need.

I am in agreement with Devonian here. I have some gear in the car boot. Mainly water and spare clothing and first aid kit blah blah etc. but I find that my Swiss Army Knife, (hunter), small torch, lighter, length of cord and a large hankie copes with most things.
Way back I had the whole bug out bag/military kit, but now I am far more minimalist. In fact the comment about knowledge is spot on.

Re: Questioning your EDC
I call what I have in my work bag my EDC Bag-Load, with the exception of the large FFD these are all things that I need or use over a six month or so period.
My EDC Pocket-Carry is all stuff I'll use daily (or at least every few days..... Except the cash stash which I try not to touch)
That said I'm due for a replace&repack so I might have a cull while I'm at it...... I'm pretty sure that having quit smoking nearly two and a half years ago, I don't need the pack of spare papers
