Your EDC can just be your car key if you drive to work, leave everything else you need in there, or a small bag in your desk door.
Think you have to be careful as well these days, even a SAK can get you into trouble depending on the individual officer and his mood.
Knowledge is power, unless its really SHTF then common sense will see you through.
Saying that a list of useful numbers, a LED torch and alittle cash have saved me from countless small problems, don't rely on your iphone to save the day, batteries die far to easily.
Hope for the best, prep for the worst and keep it need to know.
To be a consistent winner means preparing not just one day, one month or even one year - but for a lifetime.

My EDC Pocket-Carry is all stuff I'll use daily (or at least every few days..... Except the cash stash which I try not to touch)
That said I'm due for a replace&repack so I might have a cull while I'm at it...... I'm pretty sure that having quit smoking nearly two and a half years ago, I don't need the pack of spare papers

The papers could be useful as tinder?

I can see the temptation of carry a lot of stuff, but as others have said, leave it in the car. I see an EDC as the things you really need to have on you, i.e. a small personal first aid kit, like the ones they sell in sports direct with the basics in.
Tourch
Way to make fire (water proof matches in this case)
Cutting/opening food (swiss army knife)
Basic first aid kit + anti diarrhea and pain killer pills, water purification tablets
Water
Wallet with cash and cards (not pictured)
If I'm flying I remove the knife, otherwise it never changes and I dip into it quite often.

Sports direct on sale for £3.99, its water proof which is nice. The first aid kit bits that come with it are good but limited. First thing I always dip into is the plasters, then as I travel diarrhea tablets, as water and food in other places have questionable cleanliness.
I've been having a similar dilemma recently. I've bought tons of crap online - I don't really have the money for it. I have back ups of back ups coming out of my ears.
I carried my sling bag thing for a good while, I called it my EDC at the time, I switched it out of whatever bag I had with me. Motorcycle holdall, backpack, gym bag. But it was a burden and I realised that most of the stuff in there was ridiculous and the bag was heavy. So I now keep that by the door, alongside my go-bag. Or it get's chucked in the car if I'm going out any distance.
Meantime, I've bought a mini pocket organiser - yes yes, American YouTube inspired. It has my knife, multi-tool, first aid and other various bits of kit that I always feel better having on my person. I stick it in my pants pocket when walking, or my bag when going anywhere. It's minimal stuff in it that I often use. I'll see how this goes for a few months and probably change some stuff out.
Now I need to find a place to stick a drink and a protein flapjack now - so bulky. :/
I love motorcycles like a fat guy loves cake. I also love cake.
