Preparing in secret?
Preparing in secret?
Because of some situations at home I have to prep in secret. This means I have to buy my preps on specific days/times and then conceal them. I was just wondering if anyone else had or has had this problem and if anyone had any tips for me. I have convinced my mother but not my father and I think I will never be able to do so because he things peppers are all

To prep or not to prep?

But we are
I don't think you should ever have to feel like you have to prep in secret, at the end of the day it could save your ass - and his!
Don't justify yourself to him, tell him how it is, what your doing and why, and then warn him that if SHTF then it'll be his own fault. Maybe direct him to this site? or some of the other sites that show facts about why a SHTF situation could be imminent, and then let him draw his own conclusions.
You never know, he might come around to your way of thinking, but if not don't force it. Just give him something to ponder on

Re: Preparing in secret?
Does he have house insurance? car insurance? Life insurance? I bet he hopes he'll never have to claim in any of them!
Explain that being prepared is part of your 'insurance'. In case you lose your job or the street needs to be evacuated in the middle of the night due to a gas leak. What happens if the powers out in a storm? Or there's a burst water main and the water is cut off.
Those are all very possible scenarios that we could all prep for.
It's not all about the end of the world or zombies, which is probably what he is thinking.
Just take 'prepping' from a different angle and see what happens.

Re: Preparing in secret?
for me prepping is`nt about zombies or riots .
it`s like having health insurance or car insurance . i see it as ` what if ` insurance .
last week i had an accident with a grinder and need to have surgery on wed .i`m lucky in that both myself and the mrs are working so we dont have to worry about the bills . think about what would happen if i was the only one earning a wage , do we pay the bills or feed our selves . to me in this case its ` off work sick insurance but it could as easy be ` bad weather or any other form of insurance .
try putting that to your dad , see what his reaction is .

Re: Preparing in secret?
Thanks for all the suggestions
I now have a choice to make and I'm not sure what to choose. For a couple of weeks my dad has mentioned getting air rifles to go out to the woods we live next door to and shoot some squirrels. I can either go for the straight forward method and tell him about prepping. Or I can get the air rifles and slowly win him over. Thoughts?
In addition, I would think that this would be his sort of thing, he is ex navy and currently works on merchant ships as a security team leader in the Indian Ocean against pirates. But he is also very stuck in his ways

Re: Preparing in secret?
As your Dad is ex services, I would ditch the prepping title and have a chat with him about how you're worried about not having a back up plan for while he's away. Ask him if he would help you put together a 'lights out' box that maybe has a torch, camping stove, LED Lantern, playing cards, a board game or two maybe an old moblie phone spare batteries, stuff like that. Also have a look at your County Councils emergency advice here.

Now this won't change his mind, but it may alleviate his fears you are turning into Burt Gummer/John Rambo.

here is the wiltshire emergency brochure http://wiltshireandswindonprepared.org. ... ochure.pdf It has lots of useful information and I think it is a very useful general guide.
