Well been playing good Samaritan again this evening a old woman had tripped and fallen cracking her head and face onto a ridge tile capped boundary wall as we crossed a junction the Mrs saw her stumble and go down hard.....leaving her with a nice lump bust nose and missing teeth , along with a bruised knee and was rather shocked stunned and dazed ...
Parked the car safely set strobes going and put hazards on ..

Mrs Andy went across to provide immediate care and do a quick assessment (she's a first aider too)

Whilst I grabbed my big fak , donned the first aid high viz vest that lives in it front pocket big blanket and high vis jacket she was in a bit of a state half sitting but she was holding her nose and face got her to keep her head forward after checking she had no neck /back pain got her wrapped up as warm as we could with blanket and my work high viz jacket... the gf put a 999 call in and got help rolling . We then had a pcso stop who let us get on with what we were doing as "err you seem to have this under control" the woman partner seemed very relieved when we stooped to help

Then a paramedic who was commuting to work stopped and she took over care (having "borrowed" some gloves out my kit ) whilst she was helping I put the hazard lights on her car as she got out that quick to help it slipped her mind

Then the rapid response car arrived and sat her in there .. thanks all round and we continued our evening

Sound like you did alright. Well done. Did you ask the response paramedic if you could restock your used kit? Most of them will do it no problem.

Didn't bother asking for replacement stuff have a box of 100 nitrile gloves in the boot for working on the car / work / washing up when camping (my hands dry up badly in detergent and crack out) so its no great loss to me

We left having helped her walk / hobble into the back seat of the RRA car as the medic wanted her off the street (she was by the main junction into town and in full view / gawping range of the masses that passed us by going in and out of town not one person stopped to see if they could help before the PCSO pulled over )

at which point we left as the little-un had savaged a pack of sandwiches and a pile of grated cheese and was getting rather restless in the back of the car

Trust me, I've been there. You will spend ages beating yourself up about what you didn't do, rather than focus on what you did do:
- you stopped and deserve credit for it
- you were ready to deal with the situation whatever it was
- you provided a lot of reassurance to the patient and his mates
- you probably kept the rest of the group safe
- you gave the ambulance crew a head start
