I know rice lasts for ever, but how long do uncooked pasta and noodles last?

How to store Pasta to extend its shelf life?

You can help pasta keep fresh longer by storing it in its original packaging in your pantry. Once cooked, pasta should be stored in a tightly closed container to keep out moisture and other contaminants.

For a long-term option, you can freeze your pasta while preserving its taste if you use a freezer safe container. Just remember to cool your pasta (preferably run under cold water to stop the cooking) without a lid before you freeze it or it will be very mushy when thawed. Freezing is an indefinite type of storage, but cooked pasta begins to dry out when frozen too long.

Some benefits of proper food storage include eating healthier, cutting food costs and helping the environment by avoiding waste.

Stored in proper conditions, dry Pasta can be kept for years.

Good old LDS are the experts on storage, long term or short term. Have a read of this.

Their Preparedness Manual is the best. You can download or view in browser here.

This guide from Utah State University has been a real inspiration too.

Mine's in the original packaging (with a couple of pin pricks in it) then stored in mylar bags with oxy absorbers.

That's the method I used before I got rid of the long term stores. It worked very well. :)

Thanks :)
Ours is in the original packaging but I didn't know I had to prick it. It's already several years old. (I found it in a cubbyhole that had to be crawled into, in the alcove behind the kitchen units, when I was re-arranging my cupboards  )
I'll follow the link and find out what I've been doing wrong!

You only need to put a couple of pinpricks in the packaging if you are then going to store it in mylar with an oxygen absorber for long term storage. :)

Some of the gluten free spaghetti that I have been using has been good after 2 years, so I guess it can last a long time and that was just in the cupboard in open packaging. However, you will have to make sure that there is no mould in the cupboard.
