The IRA had several cache dug up over the years by the police when some one reported it or found it.

This was not proven to be an IRA arms cache, it was one of a number of theories floated.

I suspect it was more likely a collection of deactivated guns, probably European spec that may have been considered too risky to hand in. (5 years mandatory sentence for possession of a firearm)
