Radios

Post by Bournemouthprepper »

As i'm sure alot of you know, a break down in communication is a break down in effectiveness!!!

SO, what kind of coms have you all got in place, should TSHTF?

Personally i've got 2 Mt600 Cobras, 2 Mt975 Cobras, and I'm looking at setting up a base unit in the form of a PB radio!

Any ideas, suggestions, inputs?!?!

We each have a Binatone Terrain 550 2way radio in our Go Bags.
Ad 2 x Intek 5050 2way radios in a (hopefully!) EMP proof box. More info on these at http://www.delboyenterprises.co.uk/CB/UHF_CB.htm

Going to be looking into CB soon - any advice welcome!

We bought a couple of pairs of PMRs from Tesco a few years back, three AAA batteries and good for a few hundred metres without any problem, I think it was about £6 a pair :D Also have a pair of CB handheld/vehicle adaptable radios as well as two vehicle mounted CBs.

Have earphones and remote microphones, wanted some throat mics, but those aren't available in the UK for these particular radios

Absolutely nothing. I do have a wind up radio but it`s rubbish....five full minutes of wrist breaking winding gets me only two minutes of signal. The other radio I have is fantastic, not sure what it is without looking but it gets heaps of global stations but eats batteries like sweeties! :(
Aren`t wind up radios going to be useless when they all go digital? :?
If anyone could recommend a very cheap, good wind up radio though that`d be appreciated, I can put it on my list of `things still to get` :)

I've 2 radios - both wind-up and solar powered.
My day-to-day one is a Freeplay Companion http://www.freeplayenergy.com/product/companion which I picked up for just under £20. It's AM/FM only.
I also have an Eton Scorpion http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scorpion-Multi- ... B004AM7CZK which was pricier at £49. It has a usb port and additionally has SW. It lives in my EMP box!

Gnoley,

Still thinking CB....hoping to invest soon (before the cash gets spent!)....someone recommended a Maxon CM10 http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/maxon-cm10.html
I've read that one can get a 25 mile range on it...something my Intek 5050 2-way radio (when modded to 4w) also claims.
I'd prefer a handheld CB (would rather carry about AA batteries instead of a leisure battery).
What are your thoughts/suggestions?

What do you reckon would be better, a CB radio or a tranciever?
