What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

Avoid all the faff, expense and contortions and have a strip wash instead. Probably only need one kettle of water too, just sayin

Not sure if its a proper prep but I've refined my 3 bean chilli, its pretty good now (although I say it myself), I got a 9 out of 10 from Her Maj which is almost unprecedented. This will now justify building up even more black eyed beans and either aduki or pinto or.....whatever (I think I used borlotti) beans. She's a veggie anyway and apparently I was the stumbling block to eating it more often, I can't remember it being an issue to be honest and I use Quorn mince anyway, but I was too polite to call bulls**t.

She's started asking about how she can find various things in the garage and getting a bit nippy about it, as I hoped (and predicted) she's slowly joining team 'zombie'.

My first attempt to grow aubergines has not gone as well as planned, as I have just realised I carefully potted up what I can only guess is some kind of weed instead of an aubergine plant to grow on.

I've come to this sad conclusion after having to face up to the fact it looks nothing like the ones I've left in the little seedling trays labelled aubergine or anything else in the greenhouse, or any aubergine seedlings that I can find pictures of on the internet.

In my defense, it looked like all the others when I picked it as the healthiest most vigourous looking plant

I am now going to collect pictures of seedlings in various stages of growth for things I want to grow because I don't want to coddle a weed for a month ever again.

Another reason to learn to grow your own food before you actually have to.

Having acquired a rucksack to start working on a EDC/GHB to keep in the car, this week I'm on the lookout for useful bit's and pieces to keep in it. My loft storage is on hold at the moment while I find a carpenter/joiner to fit the loft hatch and ladder for me (I'd do it myself but it requires some joists to be cut-through and re-framed so I'll leave it to a pro to do I think!).

It's official. The Cat is now better prepared than we are

Worry not. My aubergine plants are looking awful. And the do look like weeds tbh! Anyhow, I have grubbed em out to use the space for something else.

set some nice big posts in at Mrs Andy's tonight for a new back gate to stop scrotes getting in her back garden (no pun intended )

nice high 6' gate to be made over the next few weeks (got the wood ready nice solid 1" thick planks)

got some hinges today too,.

and ordered a push button code lock so we can get in back way without a key reasonably quickly will add a pad bolt so it can be locked up fully at night

It's official. The Cat is now better prepared than we are

We're usually a month or so 'ahead' with dog food but for some reason a bit more unprepared with the cats. It wouldn't be a problem for one them, he's a killer (cue a song) but the other one is pretty crap. Its something else I'm working on with Her Maj, but we use the sachets and they take up a fair bit of room, even out of the cardboard boxes.

I've suggested digging a root cellar and she didn't seem dead set against it, in all honesty we don't really need one but its good to know she's coming round.

Edit: Just had a count up as I put everything away properly and it's nearer 6 months.(he's still better prepared than us though!)

We do give them biscuits and if we're away overnight and the like they'll eat them but they much prefer the sachets unfortunately. We use a site called zooplus,

they're pretty good for price and we tend to bulk buy it to get more discount, the only thing they're not that good for is sachets that our pair of litle princes will eat.
