What Neck Knife

Post by nightwalker »

Hi all, I've been thinking lately about getting myself a neck knife. Must be fairly small as I plan to be wearing it most of the time. I want it mainly for food prep, skinning, and light jobs around camp, and I think it would be a good back up if I lose my other knife or get separated from my rucksack. I was wondering if anyone on here uses one and could recommend any. I don't really want to spend any more than about £50 or £60 as I think that is enough for a knife that shouldn't really see any heavy work. My favourite at the moment is the boker plus voxknives gnome mini survival knife. But was wondering if anyone on here has any suggestions.

Any CRKT Minimalist neck knife is good and reasonably priced, they come at about £30. My personal favourite neck knife is my Fox Compso, had it half a year and its been great. The Fox Compso is more expensive at about £44, but it is worth every penny.

I have a becker bk11, its larger than the ones your looking at, but having no scales makes it light enough to wear all day.

I quite like the Boker Plus Gnome, their about £38 and have a nice range of handles. 440c stainless, so good rust resistance from sweat and blood and easy to sharpen. As its a neck knife, its not a heavy use knife so edge retention issnt as important as a regular camp knife, so 440c is fine.

Hello.

Have a look at the Enzo Necker;

It's available as a "skeleton knife" or with several different scale configurations, ready made or in kit form.
It also comes in either scandi or full flat grind and with either a Kydex or leather sheath.

I paid just short of £30 for a basic Ffg blade and Kydex sheath and about £49 for a lovely curly birch scandi with a leather sheath.

I think the leather sheath is too bulky for carrying as a neck knife though.

Thanks mate, I think the Enzo necker is the favourite at the moment. The one with the scandi grind and curly birch handle. I sat and watched loads of reviews on you tube the other night and decided that the handle on the boker gnome was too short.

Just as a bit of an update re the Enzo neckers, I'm finding the scandi grind much easier to use than the full flat grind. The blade's way more sturdy too.
I'd definitely recommend the scandi option.
