Hi, I am interested to know about portable generator. I mean how it's work, how much cost, which the best? Can anyone suggest me about it?
Thanks.
What is the portable generator?
Re: What is the portable generator?
Welcome to the forum. I am guessing the mods may be along soon to move this to another section but for now......
A really good generator is a Honda EU20i http://power.honda.co.uk/industrial/pro ... rview.html
Its quiet, efficient and gives good power quality. Not the cheapest but probably one of the better portable generators available.
The usual rules apply:
1. don't use a generator indoors.
2. dont try to wire it into your house electrics.
3. dont try to refill the petrol tank when the generator is running.
4. dont leave it running where it can get stolen!
5. dont try to run your entire neighborhood from it. If its rated for 2,000watts, dont try to use the full 2,000w for prolonged periods and dont try to exceed it.
6. electricity and water dont mix! having a generator running in the rain with cables everywhere might not be the safest option.
7. Be careful, electricity kills!

A portsble generator doesn't only have to be petrol driven. Solar generators are also available, but are expensive. It is pretty cheap to make one though. several of us here have made variations on the same theme.
I used these as a reference point.

If you search solar generators and solar on the forum there are quite a few threads.

now im home.......
usually they work like the old bike dynamo which is spun by an engine....//
as for cost between £40ish and £thousands...
a home user is probably going to be better with a "inverter" generator as the voltage and current is stabilised so its safe on electronic components.... unlike most "site" generators which are fine for a drill or grinder but you wont want to run a computer off them..
on top of the list above.. you can only legally store 30l of petrol without a licence in the UK

A way around the only being able to store x Litre's of petrol legally is to run the generator on LPG (propane) a few big 47kg bottles should run an average size generator for a very long time. As a bonus you can also use the same bottle for the BBQ or heating the house.

is that 2000w total running load?
as Things like Refrigerators, freezers, Induction motors (some power tools like 9" grinders) draw a lot more power at start up...
Petrol generators are reasonably cheap in the UK and Honda engines are usually a nice globally renounced name with a good spares network (not sure about bangladesh)
i have one of these which should just scrape your 2000w ( ideally you want about a 3- 4000w unit to give you plenty of spare capacity (less "hammer" on the generator the less fuel it will use and less stress on the machine..)
http://www.seddondirect.co.uk/PRAMAC_E3 ... 74.13.html
which is enough to run the house fairly happily but i wont run sensitive electronics just be aware its only a small petrol tank so will need a lot of refills
be aware of the rated power such as this
http://www.seddondirect.co.uk/HondaEU20i
sounds like its a 2000w unit but in reality constant load its only 1600w but these really are a fantastic unit but at a rather big price
