Hi! I'm Mary from Birmingham

Post by maryevans »

Hey there. I'm Mary and I'm in my 20s. I've been worried about a collapse scenario for a long time, especially after living in rural Spain with family for a few years. Things are really bad there. Greece looks like is going down the pan this Summer, and I expect they are just the first of many.

My husband thinks my fears are ridiculous so I'm doing this behind his back. It's very difficult to prepare for two people in secret, but God knows I'm trying. I've heard many things about September 2015 too.

We're young and have no savings whatsoever, so buying gold or silver coins would be impossible. My husband has engineering and carpentry skills, though, which I believe could be valuable after a collapse scenario. I'm focusing on growing food. We don't have a garden or balcony or any land at all, so I'm growing plants in pots in the building car park. One does the best one can, right? :D

Are there other younger people here, or are you guys all babyboomers?

Hi Mary, welcome to the group.

We are a very mixed bunch, some young, some a bit older ;) with varying experiences. Some in employment, some not so some prepping on limited budgets - rest assured it can be done!

We have also have members that prep in secret. It took my OH a couple of years to be on board with it, he's not so bad now but does roll his eyes at some purchase.

Anyway, take your time, enjoy the site and maybe you should consider some gueriila gardening.

best advice any one can give is , start small , a little here and a little there soon adds up .
look around when shopping and dont be put off by the best before dates on tins or dried stuffs . approved foods is a good one to look at , some decent bargains if you look for them

Hi Mary, welcome :)

The other thing you can do in secret is collect skills, and practice a few of them too. Gardening is certainly a great skill to have - your fitness is important, knowing how to get water clean and safe is another, that sort of thing. Good luck!

Hello. Concentrate on extra food, some stored water, a torch and batteries and a battery radio. Also a small camping stove and extra gas would be good when you can. Amazon is your friend. As the others have said, knowledge and skills are important too ( if not more so). If I were to recommend one book to you with the status you describe then it would be 'When All Hell Breaks Loose' by Cody Lundin. He tells you how to deal with 'situations' with what is around you.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Me.

Hi Mary, nice to have you on the forum,
Age is no barrier..I came to prepping fairly late in life. BY the time you reach middle age you should have years of experience under youur belt.
