I just ordered a pair of these of amazon for 9.99£ (and prime deliver), they are uttery fantastic!
Absolutely perfect saftey goggles.
Comfortable, good coverage, fits over even large glasses, durable and provides amazing protection. How do I know? We tested it!
In a ridiculously un scientific fashion.
Me and a mate subjected this to:
Throwing against a brick all - some shallow scratches not affecting clarity.
Hammer strikes - nothing at all!
Next we strapped it a chair to hold it in place and from 10meters we started shooting it
Firstly would they make good airsoft protection?
Airsoft pistol and rifle strikes - strong enough to break / leave welts on skin, nothing!!!
Wow! What about something more serious, could this legitimately be lifesaving?
Air pistol BB gun ( 6ft-lb 8Joules) .177 needless to say these can easily be lethal - ricochet off from point blank range these made small blisters in the laminate not affecting clairty
Air rifle .22 pellets (12ft-lb, 16J) no more than the pistol !
We were running out of options until someone offered to test it properly down at an airgun range...
FAC air rifle .22 heavy pellets 20ft-lb sent the glasses flying with the plastic lenses coming off
Minor damage to one of the retention clips.
Lenses could be replaced and sit securely in place despite this.
Finally a 80lb-12 inch cross bow bolt to the lens again some funny bubbling in the laminate but no penetration.
This thing is amazing, each of those attacks would easily blind, mame or kill you an this thing deflects them with ease. The cross bow bolt would seriously harm you I suspect from the impact alone, there for I see no reason to test it further but I will do!
I shooting on a small clay pigeon range where clay pieces and small shot can fall upon you at the worst times you may end up with broken skin usually it just stings.
I feel much safer wearing these than typical shooting glasses (more flimsy and less coverage).
Best thing is these fit easily over my Ray Ban Aviators which are massive glasses.
What more could you possibly want?
I've also got a photo of the pair after the abuse it received to show how minor the damage is. (BTW, I have another pair I use for saftey that has not taken any damage)

To be honest if you feel you have to wear something like this to shoot clay pigeon safely, your club has serious issues.
You'll also find it impossible to get your eye down along the barrel properly with these bloody great things on your face, so don't go banking on hitting anything!
Handy to know they stand up to some torture though, they'll be useful for drilling etc.

Jeez, what clays are you shooting? Why are you anywhere near where the shot is falling? Why are you not wearing a helmet?birds&bees wrote:

I recently went 250 shots without a miss in DTL... and my first ever perfect round with a .410 wearing these!Holomon wrote:To be honest if you feel you have to wear something like this to shoot clay pigeon safely, your club has serious issues.

I agree this should never be an issue but with driven sporting targets and practical shooting it is inevitable something will fly towards your face.
A cap is useful too.

Now I'm confused, you shoot DTL with a .410?!?birds&bees wrote:I recently went 250 shots without a miss in DTL... and my first ever perfect round with a .410 wearing these!Holomon wrote:To be honest if you feel you have to wear something like this to shoot clay pigeon safely, your club has serious issues.

Usually with a 12 gauge (browning 525 sporter one 30inch barrel using whatever carts are cheapest usually fiochhi top one) I went 250 shots without a miss a personal records before that I would miss every round or so 25-75 straight hits with three or four misses in the next round (put it down to perfection nerves).Holomon wrote:Now I'm confused, you shoot DTL with a .410?!?birds&bees wrote:I recently went 250 shots without a miss in DTL... and my first ever perfect round with a .410 wearing these!Holomon wrote:To be honest if you feel you have to wear something like this to shoot clay pigeon safely, your club has serious issues.

One day I just could not miss (the day after I handed in my notice). Someone recommended I tried a .410 (they gave me their old break barrel single shot) which reduced my hits to about 10-15 hits per round since then I've only used a .410 and recently hit 25 in a row without even realising it ( I was with my missus who used my 12g and managed to hit none
I usually use a 12G with an extra full choke it's not all that much easier to dust a clay than it is to at least chip one with a .410. I'd be very unhappy if I chipped a DTL target with my 12G. Once you get over the psychology of OMG this is a peeshooter you realise the .410 is a formidable piece of gear very capable of jobs we'd usualy leap to the 12G to achieve.
Shame .410 ammo costs about as much as 12G and I don't have any reloading gear for .410 my Lee LoadAll II only works on 20-12G.
This is all changing as I am not going to be able to afford to shoot 5-10 rounds of DTL a week next year
