Can't beat a wood burner , one lot of fuel to cook, heat with and u can forage for wood if it comes to it.
As for countryside living, I live 3 miles outside of a small village, that's as close as I want to get, at least while I'm young and mobile enough to cope, we are very high so get plenty of snow in winter. But I couldn't go back to the city, would rather live in a caravan in a field than go back to the crime and noise etc of suburbia.

I have been stocking up on some rechargables by getting some packs of AA and AAA batteries and a mains charger. I've gone for the Duracell stay-charged ones as they keep most of their charge when not in use.
I will also look at getting a solar/USB charger like the Goal Zero 10 Plus (possibly with a Nomad 7 portable panel?)

Ordered some lock and lock boxes so can start storing flour, lentils, rice etc. Also cig lighter thingy so I can use my spare truck battery for emergency stuff. Some more tinned supplies to keep filling prep basket 3.
Gonna try an up non food stuff to, when some cash comes available

Starting to fill the pantry with homemade, if not home-grown (just yet) produce. Today I've bottled 8 jars of Pears and the first batch of red 'kraut is on the go.

Spent a wet day sorting my workshop. The bench and tools are now in order. The main thing was all the 'resources'- nuts, bolts, rope, tarpaulins, you name it-I've got it. And now I know exactly what. The outbuilding where our freezers and stores are is bang up to speed. Just got to sort the garden tool shed now.
It is amazing how being organised seems to make you feel more relaxed.

Good stuff!! nothing like knowing what you have and where it is. That is the best feeling.

I need to take a leaf out of your book mate, most of my preps are either in the garage which is messy but I know where everything is or one of the upstairs rooms which is also supposed to be my 'man cave' but has become a bit of a dumping ground for 'my' stuff. My mission for this week is to square it all away and to step up my dehydrating, I only did one lot last week. I did however 'take back' some wood that 'travellers' dumped a couple of fields over and there's plenty more to salvage too. I also did a drunken 'investment' in 3 more of these....jansman wrote: it is a good feeling. I am determined to stay that organised.

I've got a couple and a fair stash of 18650 batteries, Her Maj seems to have commandeered one, I've got one set aside so felt justified in ordering some more.
