I have to confess the science of this escapes me, but a new product up for funding on kickstarter;

Looks interesting, I guess there's some way of doing this yourself with a trip to RS Components, but I may just back it and get one.

Very interesting! It refers to the temperature gradient, which is what makes it work - I've seen that somewhere... ground source heat pumps? I'm not sure. Wiki describes it, and says it *is* used to create an electrical charge. "However, a well-designed Peltier cooler will be a mediocre thermoelectric generator and vice versa, due to different design and packaging requirements." Thats a bit gobbledygook to me, and it sounds like it really does work, but only for small things like pieces of usb kit.

I would guess its a similar set up to those stove top fans that are driven by electric generated by the heat of the chimney Peltier is the basis of them.

This looks.....fascinating, I'd be lying if I said I knew how it works but that could be said for a lot of things.
I'm quite interested in the solar route but open to new ideas, especially as I stay in Scotland, not the Sahara.

I like the way that it boils the water as well, it'd mean you can recharge your phone whenever you do something you're already doing a number of times a day when camping etc.
Looks like the clever bit of kit is the pot part and you could maybe use a trangia/other heat source with it. So tempting to buy one...I should just get it out of the way really because I know I'll cave eventually!
