Recently returned from Australia where I learned a few things about snakes and spiders and other creepy crawlies, packed a bites and stings kit, learned how to make/use a pressure bandage.

Not so useful in the UK granted but for anyone travelling in remote tropical places may be of some use, I may write a post about it.

Plenty of water filtering, purifying practice, bit of firelighting but mainly using stores and personal kit as opposed to true wilderness stuff.

Also learned how to prevent/protect from drop bear attacks ;-).
Cutting, combustion, cordage, container, cover.

That's a waste of good chillies, Her Maj has been growing chillies for me this year with a lot of success, we've got galloons of them and they're all for me (well some for her but she finds them a bit nippy). To be fair she's been very successful with her veg this year. We've started to harvest peas, beetroot and rasp/strawberries at the moment.

I suppose it counts as a prep but I had to put a lock on Her Maj's allotment shed because somebody else needed her fork more than she did it seems. An old couple a couple of allotments along had a table and chairs nicked too recently, it has to be someone who has an allotment near us, we're right at the back so a bit of a trek on the off chance. Tea leaves are scum.

Apart from that, just adding to the food stores, sorting out where I keep stuff in my 'zombie stores' and getting a few more torches from Amazon (like I need more torches  ).

I don't think it's possible to have too many torches. They are rapidly becoming my favourite prep.

Don't forget the batteries, I've got into the 18650/14500 types, they make a difference. Happy 'torching'. :D

I agree! I have an addiction to the ones with magnets and a hook on them that can be stuck almost anywhere and they are really bright too, some have 12 led lights and some 8 and I have some that are head torches I just love them, along with a few wind-up lanterns and torches, battery torches and lanterns. All run off AA/AAA batteries of which I have a huge stash too. Thank goodness for the drawers under my bed  another is now completely crammed full of huge candles, tea lights and every size in between  Good job Mr Decaff doesn't open these drawers, he would not be happy that he can't "borrow a few" to play with

Mrs Deeps has gone from being quite scathing about my torches to 'borrowing' a couple and having high expectations on batteries at her beck and call. I try and keep to AA/AAA batteries for general use but I've got into the Cree's in a big way, that's why I keep the 18650/14500's. They vary in price so the quality of the cheaper ones might be a bit suspect but if you haven't tried them they're worth a wee shot. You need a dedicated charger for them as well but you can get pretty decent ones fairly cheaply.

Just added a pack of 5 Cree Q5 torches for my 'collection'. Got them off ebay for only £11 for 5 delivered!

I've also bought a batch of 14500 (1200mAh) and 18650 (6000mAh) batteries as well as a couple of XTAR VC4 chargers which seem to charge everything I need and have a handy display.

Im just happy he has no idea, he's "borrowed" lanterns, torch's and other stuff before and it never returns, he's happy to give them to his kids who really have no concept of respecting other people's belongings and will never return things "borrowed" so this way he can't lend anything out either so the stash remains intact and grows. Trying to stick to AA/AAA batteries to keep things simple.

The 14500 batteries are basically powerful AA's, they can only be used in things rated for them though, the bigger torches I use the 18650's in also come with an adaptor that can use 3 AAA's as well, the AAA's are fine, they're still really powerful torches but the more powerful (and rechargeable) batteries just take them up a level. There's a plethora of the 1 cell AA type on Amazon and I really like these ones that use the 18650's, especially at the price, plenty of others though.
