That's the sort of thing but with the shed install I did I attached it to the load of the regulator rather than to the battery so it can't be left on and over discharge the battery:)

I'm an advocate of the 12v based systems as in a shtf situation there will be plenty of car batteries to borrow if needed as a reserve for a rainy dark day is always wise

Before I indulge any more and confuse the life out of itsi I'll wait and see which way she wants to go

My tuppence worth...

I've just had a week away in Wales and tried to last the whole time keeping my phone running just from my Goal Zero kit. One similar to this...



I sort of made out ok, but I had to turn the phone off for some periods and avoid using it all together for other periods. I've made a video diary that I'm gonna stick on YouTube. So really, this isn't what you need. What you could probably do with is something bigger - GZ do a kit called the Sherpa 50 solar kit, which is just a 13w solar panel and a 50WH battery.



This seems to be perfect for your needs, but paying near £260 for it is just ridiculous. I wanted it quite badly but didn't want to pay the money, and so I've bought a few other gadgets to see if I can replicate it on the cheap really easily.

This is a 14w generic Chinese solar panel which actually has Goal Zero solar panels in it. The price is about £30, but I won it at auction for £21. Here is my actual panel...





Then I bought this to go with it, perfect reviews, 18 month warranty and I've been using this regularly with excellent results. It's 74WH, so nearly a third better performance than the Sherpa 50.



This is an Aukey 20000 from Amazon. It fits like a glove in the mesh net pocket in the back of the solar panel and, so far in my very basic test, charges it fully in about two days in typical English weather.

To accompany it, and to keep my batteries topped up, I've bought one of these, a bargain at 99p on ebay.



I've not tested this stuff properly yet, but it all looks brilliant to me, and the whole set up was less than £50.

Must admit i do like the portable solar stuff i got one of these from lidl the other year



but the only place i have found it actually be happy to charge properly was abroad in sunnier climates last winter i flattened it then it took just over a week to fully charge in the "winter sun"

that set up you have looks very good though ideal for camping and touring (now im going before i buy one (already have a lion power pack)

I'm after a similar thing, I've hesitated because I'm trying to do my research. I've got my eye on one of these, they generally have good reviews on Amazon, still swithering so like the OP, I'm following this with interest.

I think there are some positive looking videos on youtube about that Anker. I just went for the cheapest because they all seem to look the same and if I didn't like it I could always send it back - eBay rules and all that.
