Confused .co.uk now i am. I do both ish.
Rarely sell anything ive bought, shed garage is full.
Loft ,wardrobe you name it. Strange thing is most of it is too usefull to chuck,i often find something thats needid for a repair so on.
I guess im leaning more to sensible hoarder with prepper in mind lol.
The idea of being self sufficent sounds perfect ,i just lack the full know how and space at present.
prepper or hoarder?
Re: prepper or hoarder?
If I have the space, then I will fill it.
18 months ago we lived in a 3 bedroom semi with a garage, the garage was full of offcuts of wood and bits of metal that 'will come in handy one day'. T?hen we had to move, the garage went and I now have a 10x8 shed.
I've found the trick is to be tidy..lots of shelving and everthing in boxes and well labled. I'm still one for cutting the flex off old appliances and keeping it along with wood and bits of metal but when you open the box and see 2 or 3 appliance cables all coiled up then I tend to think 'hmm maybe i'll chuck this one instead of adding to the stockpile'
There are all kinds of reasons why people hoard...childhood poverty probably being the biggest one here in the UK.

Re: prepper or hoarder?
I was in a trap of too much stuff, it was circumstances really, let downs when i bought stuff i could not get rid of the old stuff they always let me down so i was left with 2 or even 3 of things mostly that did not work, washing machines and so on, it is very easy to get so overloaded, when i moved it took me nearly 4 years to entirely declutter, because of the cost of hiring someone to clear and so on, i prefer the space, but i do have 3 heavy duty shelf units that are 5 each so it gives a 15 shelf space that i find enough, hoarding was not exactly what it was, although i accept to keep stuff that is just clutter is that, i always feel the need to draw that line now, i make definate declutter dates, mark the calendar and do it.
Take the warning from someone who knows, it is almost like visual noise and you need to be careful when prepping ends and hoarding begins, i just have a spare cooking method, a parraffin stove, 2 paraffin heaters and i do have lanterns and also wind up ones, but that stuff fits in easy.
Just a word of warning on that topic.

I was a hoarder until I realised I had a use for everything. Especially the 7 gorilla boxes of old army gear stashed in my garage, it's from when I was in and just accumulated bits and pieces. Might come in handy when the shtf and I want to rejoin. Or start a village counter insurgence group.

A thought don't have much experience with hoarders but they seem disorganised and untidy buying stuff on a whim etc.
I would suggest preppers are forward planning meticulous individuals who store and catalogue their preps in a tidy logical manner.
That's my rational anyway -now to convince Mr 7 lives that a pantry full of dehydrated food, outhouse full of wood for the woodburners and various other ongoing preps will be vital to his full tum and wellbeing come the next flood!
