I nearly got skittled in a little village doing this despite been in motorway spec high VIs jacket and trousers even with 2 warning triangles and a led amber light bar
I added a 6 pack of these in blue (since they were over 1/2 the price of amber £66 when i ordered and legal so long as you don't put them on the car...as its "just a blue torch "

Re: Car kit
A tyre pump is handy, I have one of those ones that run off the cigarette lighter socket, handy if you get a flat, it's got me home twice in the last 2 years without having to change the tyre.
Hi-vis jacket.
Blanket or sleeping bag and candle ( the candle will warm up the inside supprisingly well if you get stuck), keep a foil carton or something safe to stand it in.
Boiler suit, handy if you have to get dirty fixing something.
Wire and cable ties (wire for hot things like the exhaust)
Water, I carry a slab of bottled water
First aid kit
torch
Tow rope
spare bulbs.

Re: Car kit
To much rolling of eyes, she's now accepted a slightly beefed up bag, its still small and I would say lacking but better than nothing. She's got her sleeping bag and a usb powered battery charger with a couple of AA's and a couple of AAA's, I've managed to get......(standby for a list)
Bivvy bag
small folding spade
2 cans of veggie scran
2 litres of water
festival type poncho
medium sized micro towel
space blanket
2 small packs of tissues
4 spare AA batteries
hand gel
can opener
cree torch
SAK
wind up torch
lighter
20 windproof matches
spork
roll of insulating tape
tooth brush
permanent marker and bic pen
notebook
smally 'first aid' kit with 8 paracetemol, 16 brufen, 12 puritabs, toothpaste, 2 large and 10 small plasters.
I've probably forgotten a thing or two but she's getting with the programme slowly. Not much in the way of tools and stuff but as I posted earlier, that was never likely to happen. She should be fine for 24 hrs if required, with a wee 'creep' into a bit more.
If you can think of anything that I've missed for a Princess having to slum it in a car overnight then please let me know, she's still not interested in a stove of some description.

they are hellishly slow at boiling water ((and for the love of god keep the engine on as i killed the battery on mine on the drive when i was playing))
but a kettle and ditch the tins of food for MRE type meals
http://evaq8.co.uk/Day-Ration-Pack-3000 ... nu-10.html
or add a few of these
http://evaq8.co.uk/FLAMELESS-RATION-HEA ... -Meal.html
stick pouch in bag or kettle of water ... in the case of the ration heaters add a few ml of water wrap in a blanket or such and leave to heat...
cant beat a kettle tho for a few warm drinks

Re: Car kit
Cheers for getting back to me, I really don't see the point of MRE's for the car, they ain't cheap ether. She's got cans that can either be eaten hot or cold if she has to, I've stayed away from the breakfast bars/sweets because, lets just say they wouldn't be there for emergencies. (she usually has some in the car anyway). These are easy to replace from the zombie stores or use if they are going out of date.Yorkshire Andy wrote:Travel kettleDeeps wrote:To much rolling of eyes, she's now accepted a slightly beefed up bag, its still small and I would say lacking but better than nothing. She's supposed to have looked out a spare pair of socks and gloves to put in there too but I don't think she has.

10. Can I eat your meals cold?
The cooking process of our meals and the air tight seal prevents any spoilage meaning the meals do not require heating before eating and can be safely eaten cold. However, for maximum taste I would recommend heating the meal before eating it.

Re: Car kit
Phew, where to start, you've got a lot of good points, ref the scran, she can't see a time when she would ever need it (I hope she's right) so I'm pissing against the wind with any kind of heating system, she's just not up for it. I did see some of the ones in Tesco a while back but as a prep, I felt they weren't for us, just not worth it.Yorkshire Andy wrote:I prefer the pouches simply down to storage ease to warm and been one less thing to roll about in the boot

Socks, hmmm, the word on the street is that Princesses don't like 'jaggy socks', I've got a lifetime supply of thick black navy socks, I've just given a load away to a mate, Her Maj was adamant that she didn't want me to get her any. She tends to have walking socks and 'normal' socks, I leave it to her. The sealskin ones sound interesting, if she wants them, she can get them but that's up to her, she makes such a fuss about stuff I tend to let her do her thing and IF she wants my advice then fair enough.
She's got a hi vis vest and a tarp already, I forgot to put them on the list. my bad, I've been working on this for a while and some of the smaller stuff I've added are later additions, I've concentrated on them rather than the stuff she already had, to be honest I'm just chuffed she's let me beef up her car stuff, I've mentioned it from time to time but I'm guessing with the change of seasons she's maybe thought "why not".

Re: Car kit
Well Mrs Andy's mums car (that mrs andy borrows from time to time got a high vis sleved "jacket" slung in and a small all be it "out of date" FAK in about a month ago...)
she witnessed a 3 car shunt (been directly behind the rear most not paying attention driver)
she pulled up in time and got half on the verge went to the boot and as she was putting the jacket on the woman from the car which caused the crash started looking at the front of her mums car.... Mrs andy walked round by now glowing like a yellow beacon "Don't know what your looking for but you wont find it as unlike you i managed to stop in time"....
woman blustered something and skulked off
Mrs andy then took charge of the incident making sure insurance details were swapped properly and tending to the baby in the middle car of the sandwich..
she got a "you was a witness" form from an insurance company today so she sent that off all filled in with all the i's dotted and t's crossed with a sketch map...
One thing i found with High vis clothing is "be different" the standard saturn Yellow seems too common and people get blind to it and even stood in the road people ignore you...
I found this one works very well
everyone did as they were told / directed when i started directing traffic in this despite been in shorts and t-shirt when i came across a tanker that had rolled over on a roundabou

Re: Car kit
Some tea light candles and a lighter in a tupperware. I was once left on top of bodmin moor in a blizzard for seven hours by the RAC. Despite the fact I had Disabled Prority Response. In spite of training and clothing I went into hypothermia and was very unwell. Some small candles, with a little air venting can stave that off.
