Every year they promise us bad weather and it never happens, Persoanaly I want a frosty winter to kill all the viruses and bugs that are getting stronger every year and to break up the soil. Thinking in terms of 'Space weater' and longer cycles of time, we are due a 'mini ice age' or to quote a Telly Programme "Winter is coming"

With the Just in time delivery systems for food and the way infastructure runs on a sudden spate of peer weather might shock the powers that be into some longer term thinking-But all it will most likey do is drive up the food/fuel and energy prices.

On a more personal note. "How are we at chez Wales preparing for bad weather?" Blankets..well the modern equvalent, Duvets, sleeping bags and sofa blankets can all be brought into play on the beds.
Approriate clothing....a bit of a no brainer, But with a teenage girl in the house who puts fashion before comfort even with shcool uniform, and walks to school in a thin hoody in all weathers, We all have boots/socks/gloves and hats and if things got bad then she would made to wear them.
The flat is gas centrally heated. but we have a rolling radiator in a cupboard. Every member of the family has a Hot water bottle. And the medicine cabinet has plenty of stores of Cold and Cough remedy.

It's timely that you mention this...walking the dog today I noticed the leaves on a few trees changing colour already. Also a heck of a lot of sloes and elderberries. The old boys always reckoned on a lot of berries preceding a bad Winter. Plus we are overdue one. I certainly hope not.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

I have seen it a few times on you tube now, el ninio or whatever it is called is even warmer than 96/97 so they say that is a bad omen for a bad winter, i have been busy getting extra soup and things like that in, and a new mobile heater.

every year they promise us "the worst winter in 100 years" or some verbal diarrhea like that.

I'd really like to see this "worst winter ever", I love winter ...... I really don't mind the cold.

I'd go as far as saying I'd prefer it was cold than too hot

Amazing damsons, blackberries, sloes and rowan berries this year. This is apparently nature's way of providing for a hard winter but I've known this not to be true in the past. Nevertheless, I shall be making a few buckets of jam.

Aye, i have heard of the El nino weather cycle, something to do with pushing warmer water up the pacific if i'm not mistaken, this in turn produces more cyclones which then does something else and so on.

As preppers all we can do is prep to make the suppose bad winter as bearable as possible. More food, logs for fire, top up the oil, etc etc.
