My funeral preps today

Post by Decaff »

Today was the funeral of my Nan. I was laughed at by my siblings for having "so much stuff" in my bag, but then, my niece was chasing up her flowers and needed to borrow a phone phone charger and I was the only one who had one, one sister had a headache and I was the only one with pills, another had upset stomach and I was the only one who had meltlets for that, another relative hadn't eaten and was feeling shaky and I had a stash of energy bars. I won't mention how handy the extra packs of tissues were and the spare carrier bag came in handy for a car sick child along with some mints.

No one was laughing at me by the end of the day. In fact one sister said she was impressed that I could cover all the hiccups for the day.

Well done Decaff, that is the spirit of being prepared there, not Zombies and the like but first and foremost being ready for the sh1t that actually does happen, in the case of funerals we can be 100% certain that that is going to happen to all of us and everyone we know and love ;)
Like going on a day trip, to work or any activity having some things with you to cover hiccups and the like is almost an art in itself, along with the very British knack of being able to stick together some sort of improvised contraption or alternative to get ourselves out of the poo and able to continue with our day, yes prepping is a skill, perhaps even an art in itself, like the scouts motto implies for the most part we aren't talking bunker building.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Very nicely put Plymton.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Very sorry to hear of your loss, Decaff. And yes, everyday preps like that can make a big difference in sudden life events ...

Yes, people on work travel always laugh at my bag until I bring out the mozzie kit, painkillers, energy bars, inflatable pillow, spare sunhat, SAK, FAK etc.

I find it amusing that I am always mocked, but it's funny how everyone will always ask me when they need something! ;)

Strange isn't it how people recognise you are the one with the answer.

Years ago a neighbour knocked on our door on Christmas day. Their little boy was really upset as his big present had come without batteries. Did I have PP3 9V and "D" cells?

Certainly did.

It is indeed, Mr Decaff doesn't ask "if" we have batteries, but "where have you hidden them this time"
