Car boot sales, what do you look for?

Post by the-gnole »

We don't usually get up early enough to get to them at opening time but there are still some useful bits to pick up even at closing time.

I look for usable tools, Camping cookers and equipment, non power lighting, non-fiction books, fishing kit; even picked up an old, but unused, semi-rotary hand pump for using on wells

Got it for £20 :D

Don't like the "traders" stalls, but some do have some useful bits and pieces.

What do you look for?

When they start again I am going to be looking for hand tools for DIY/woodwork, camping equipment and anything that might be useful.
(plus lots of things for my classroom! :D )

We went to the Ross-on-Wye one last weekend, got the oil lamp mentioned in another thread.

We did the Gloucester one last year, it's a bit big isn't it  , I like to do a quick once through and see what's around, if it is a "Not to be missed" item we put it by to pick up later  Have had storage barrels and paraffin heaters from the Ross one :D

Don't be afraid t haggle a price that seems a bit high, or walk away and try again later if it is still there

My Dad has been dragging me to car boot sales ever since I was old enough to walk, Im usely after stuff from militry surplus stalls and fishing and shooting stalls the traders are good for lot bulk cheap goods. I also keep an eye out for people selling there 2nd hand items I bought few air rifles over years aswell some nice camping equipment like small folding chair recentley what also doubles up as gun stabliser when shooting. You do have to get up there early to get some of the bargins before anyone else get there hands on them. Always try haggle to get price down a lot people just want rid so happy to sell for little less. :D
