We need more water, didn't think I was doing too bad but I've done a dry run, pardon the pun, washing myself instead of having a bath/shower. Thought I could do it with 2ltrs water, used 4. and that wasn't easy even though I was actually clean. No way could I have washed my hair and if I hadn't washed for a while or done something that got me dirty I would have struggled even more. I also reckon I would have been more efficent at it than others in the family.
Got a chain saw sharpener from lidl and as it was a new toy. one of my sons sharpened a saw and chopped a couple of bushes for me.
Stocked up storage food as well so not doing bad this week.

Nobody except my 5 year old knows how much I have in preps. He's young enough to think everyone has a cupboard full of spare everything in case the kitchen runs out of stuff.fapplan wrote:I have a similar problem. I managed to avoid the persuing conversation that would make me look like aMissPrep wrote: Having accidently opened my big mouth & said 'well, if it all goes that bad just make sure you have a full tank of petrol & drive to my house' I'm now trying to work out how to triple my food stores.to them by saying that I've started to food shop monthly now, and that I always stock up whenever there's a good offer. That said I would never turn my family away if SHTF, I just don't want to make myself the "go-to guy"
My income is less than half of any other member of my families income & I'm the only one who could make it through a week without a trip to the shops for something so I definitely don't want to be the go to gal for everyone!
For anyone else I wouldn't have said it, but when it comes down to it they are my parents.
Much as I love my sister, if she came, she'd bring her husband, her son, her daughter & son in law, her grandkids, her cat... never mind my brother & his family.
My supplies wouldn't last a month, I'm not sure they'd even last a fortnight if everyone came.
Don't know how I'd turn them away at the door though if it came down to it but they'd literally be taking food out of my childs mouth so I'd have to somehow (mind you I'm not that keen on my sister in law so she'd be easy!).
What a dreadful way to have to think though - for the first time in my life I wish I was rich.

I really do think that knowing how many you're prepping for is a prep in itself, the vast majority of us live 'normally' in our own homes, some might have adult children living with them but there's a lot of people who will have to rely on others for mutual protection and support. Family is great, good friends or neighbours is good too but as you say, potentially eats into the victuals. At the risk of banging a drum here, if people are hungry they'll not be rational, depending on what situation you're in, you might be grateful for numbers....who'll need feeding. For every strong back, they'll bring along a few weaker ones with them, if they happen to be loved ones, that makes it easier.MissPrep wrote:Nobody except my 5 year old knows how much I have in preps. I can't imagine any situation past a few days where you could just hide out in your home while everyone else is either queueing up at a mobile soup kitchen or wandering the streets desperate for a solution. Even if you've got 6 months worth of supplies AND you join the queue for your bowl of broth, if you're not as miserable as everyone else you'll be 'suspect'. If you've given any indication that you have supplies you'll be a target, I can't see past having to feed other people in a lot of situations, they'll not all be eternally grateful but if you can get some decent people to cooperate then I see that as a huge head start. Whether they're preppers or not, if it all goes horribly wrong its good to have people you can trust about you, even just a few strong backs (and arms) might make you less likely to get rolled and build up trust and cohesion between yourselves. It's likely to get physical when people get hungry, its a bit of a prime motivator food, especially if you've got kids to provide for.
Sorry for the negativity.

Put another battery in the bank for the solar charger, and added another 20w panel. Takes me up to 140ah, should be able to run my led lights for three days straight.
Got me another pack of mini bic lighters for edc, as I gave my 'lucky' one to my little sister.
