And breath First as long as you have food for them don't worry too much about the dogs animals will hunker down and wait bad weather out just open the door for them to have a quick wee and let them back in. Do you have enough water stored for you and them in case of a burst pipe in your road. Next I like the idea of a camping table stove keep the gas in a coldish place in the property do you have a porch you could store it in as for food soup- beans- fry ups- porridge- omelettes- paella anything that you can cook in one dish if you have a two hob camping stove you can cook the same food as you do now. Loo rolls As for doing the deed a few more days are not going to make a difference to either of you just enjoy the extra time you have with him/her.
To be truthful I would not panic to much at this time of year if we do get snow it should not last to long as the ground temp is still warm October would be different mater.

the little cans of gas are quite stable for storage , ive had and still have 2 dozen up stairs . my big butane bottle is out side with the propane .if i have to i`ll pull them indoors to use them . ive used both when camping and had no problems with them , other than the small ones freezing one night when it dropped to -6 , that made making breakfast a problem .

Hexi cookers are what's issued to all UK armed forces on exercise or Ops. So as you can imagine they're cheap and cheerful but do the job.
Hexi is a lot more stable than gas, and cheaper. However it burns with bigger flame, stinks of fish, leaves a sticky mess, takes a while to heat food/water and it can't be turned on and off.
(What you can't do with gas, that you can with a hexi block is, smother it in strawberry jam and pass it off as Kendal mint cake ).
I'm worried about the storage of gas canisters. what happens if there was no powercut here this winter that was longer than an hour so I never needed to use it... is there a use by date on them? and what happens if I'd never used them?
The thing I like about the kelly kettle thing is the fuel isn't dangerous (papers, twigs etc) to store. The kettle itself can go in bottom of wardrobe with a rechargeable lantern) I have newspapers/magazines etc and can easily collect and keep twigs, leaves etc.think I saw it mentioned that can use cones too? (weather cones?) There's a route I go on where alot of them fall along the path to pick up as taking dogs out through autumn. would conkers and conker shells burn? ..and can use the long handled lighter thing which again only needs a battery.
I'm thinking of doing a 'cold food box' where I keep in stock things I don't mind eating cold. Luckily I like tinned fruit with evaporated milk on and crisps sandwiches (can always whip a loaf out of freezer quick then use it for sandwiches as slices defrost!) shippams beef spread in little sealed jars, cereals and long life milk. Hopefully shouldn't be longer than an entire day or night without electric???
I'm sure i saw a thing on ebay where you put hot water into some kind of a box and you could put some sachets of food in and it cooks them? But I can't remember what it was called to find it again??? Would it work to heat tins of curry, chilli, rice pudding etc?

as far as i can see , theres no shelf life on gas , so long as it stays free from rust on the can then its safe to store . one can is good for a few quick meals , like soups or canned stews , some thing you need to warm up not so much cook from raw . how many twigs or cones would you need to collect to do the same job . i know free fuel is all ways better and a limitless supply .
