Apple Trees

Last year I picked up quite a few soft fruit bushes that I have planted in pots and they seem to be doing fine, plenty of new growth forming. I also picked up an Apple Tree which I have planted in the garden which was one year old. I pruned it according to the book in December but as yet there is no sign of new growth, anyone got any ideas on when i should see any signs of new growth ?....or have i killed it

Our very large and mature cooking apple tree isn't showing any life yet, but our cherry tree has buds on.
Not sure if thats any help

Apples probably won't blossom until it gets warmer around April.

Cherries are often earlier both to bud in Spring and to shed in Autumn.

My cherry has just started and is a little behind the blackcurrant.

Birds chirping away and various early flowers are showing. Spring is springing

My patio apples are just starting to come into leaf.

I have just been online to Wiggly Wigglers and because I am a subscriber I have had a hefty discount I have bought 2 patio cherry trees, a gage, an apple tree and a pear tree for £12 each. That's the last of my spending as I'm going to be unemployed very soon - but I see them as an investment for my future. They will join the three patio apples, 2 patio peaches and 3 blueberry bushes I already have bought over the last few years.

use you nail an just scratch a small bit of bark off the base of the stem and if it is green it is alive if it is brown it is dead hope this helps. this what we do when planting large numbers of trees.

Thanks for that, I had a look yesterday and might have spotted a tiny bit of growth in the bud, I will give it a week and see, if not I will try scratching it. Won't have any fruit this year anyway as the book says to pinch off the flowers to make it concentrate on root growth for the first year after planting.

not a problem best luck with it and i have grown one this winter from seed its now 4 inch high might be the next best apple
any problems about trees ill do my best to help as i have study trees for a two year college course

been out in the garden this afternoon to check on the fruit trees, we have apple, plum, pear and cherry and theyre all starting to bud
