Looks nice, I've got a Ducati 999 I use for track days and short trips with friends, every day bike is a Honda ST1300 PAN Euro. I don't use them as much as I use too as I'm on the road a lot for work and need the space of my Volvo v40 estate. Weekends are still bikes, but I have no doubt my ability on a bike has been downgraded by not riding every day.

First of all not a biker. But wouldn't a 'scrambler' type bike be better? Is a road type bike like a 2wd car and a scramber a 4x4 or am I oversimpyfing it.

There not very comfortable, have small fuel tanks and are not really designed to carry much more than a single person. Best bikes would probably be touring adventure bike like the Suzuki V-Strom or KTM 1290 Super Adventure.

Maybe in a more rural location but i am very urban and i think a little commuter like this serves the best purpose (fitting luggage rack soon )

I think he has a point to a large degree, for me if i had the money i would have bought a BMW GS, fitted with all the kit this is an awesome bike and the best bike for the job IMO, decent speed, great carry options and go anywhere with the right tyres.

Please bear in mind i am prepping for the River Thames to flood and how i can get to safe ground, I'm not worried about the end of the world..... I'll die with the other Minions.
I can't trust Govt or local Council to help me so i have to help myself.

i`d be inclinde to keep the bike and fit the two wheeled version of all terrain tyres , good for urban and off road , if you can get them .

my worst case scenario involves my family being in 2 halfs, 50 miles apart. which if it was a worst case, WOULD be the case. knowing that roads would be gridlocked, id imagine that i could make it about 1 mile west by car at the very best, maybe 5 miles east if im lucky, or 6-7 miles south east, but this would then leave me trapped between 2 valleys travelling in a direction i wouldnt want to be travelling.

My main plan if things got this bad, involve a good old fashioned pushbike, and 4 hours of man power. This is not to bug out, but i would be carrying my main grab bag, but to check on my family, and improvise from there. My kids know that if things got to a situation that called for this sort of action, to try and get to a place around 20 miles north of where they live, where theres other family.

The thoughts around this are with them being close to cardiff, if / when all hell breaks loose, with civil / religious war, dirty bombs, etc, the winds are normally from the west across the country, so heading north, then west takes them away from the capitol city, and as long as the wind hasn't changed for the odd summer 'swing' then also away from any possible 'fallout' in case dirty bombs are used. I know that me heading INTO this area exposes me to this risk, but, if all communications are down etc, then as its something that as its pre planned, i simply wouldnt think of NOT doing it.

I prep for winter every year, I travel with a grab bag in the car and van, I have a grab bag in the house, and I'm just starting to build a 6 month food store, but my initial thought about 'what if' has always been around war / civil unrest / dirty bombs affecting my kids, 50 miles away, and how I'd try to deal with that, and get them to me, at the top of a quiet valley where theres only trees and mountain tops

Interesting. I always have this fear as my kids are 180 miles away. As my boy gets older I'm getting him in to bushcraft and camping etc as a fun hobby rather than scaring him to Think he may need it one day. How old are kids? My oldest is 12 and we are going to start map reading this summer and spotting land marks etc.

Luckily they have a lot of family in the area and I Think they will be pretty safe short term and after my bug in supplies run out 4-6 months we would begin the journey north to my kids and more rich county side.
