Thank you Decaff, thank you 7 lives. Contrary to the news we hear, on the ground in Real World, employment is precarious. Years ago I read about 'Portfolio Working' or a number of part time jobs if you like. I never thought I would end up like that

As for tomorrow, I am quietly confident. The factory is still owned by the same family. They specialised for two world wars and in between making army webbing. They still do this along with aerospace Kevlar products. They look for more 'mature' people with a good work ethic. So if it is down to early starts and getting my hands mucky, well... I am used to getting up at daft o'clock, and I have done work that would make a maggot puke!!!

I truly believe that if you are prepared to adapt, and swallow your pride then there is a living to make.

It shouldn't come to that, I'm a big believer that a labourer is worthy of his hire, unless you've been a badass (I' don't mean you personally Jansman, I'm talking generally ) there shouldn't be any need to swallow your pride. If you turn up on time and do your job then that for me is your part of the bargain. When bosses start trying to justify not paying employees (again I'm speaking generally) then they show a total disregard for those employees.

and reap what they sew My dads boss has failed to pay "them" on about 3 occasions in the past 2 years... lets just say they have not forgotten, and as such they work accordingly with about as much drive as a penny farthing been ridden by a asthmatic 80 year old suffering from gout



I didnt get paid about 5 months back we shut the machines down and had a sit down "strike" no lorries got loaded or tipped, no manufacturing got done, till suddenly the money appeared in our accounts at about 9:30 2 hours after "work" started..

Yorkshire Andy gives two good examples there of the way it is out there in the world of work. As I said, mine is not a unique situation. Far from it. The Swedish lady commented earlier that in her country this would basically not happen. The labour market there is very heavily regulated though. We have a lot of regulations, but it is still a case of " if you don't like it , there are plenty who want your job " from employers. However, I do not want to go off at a tangent.

I cannot fish today as there is a lot happening so I shall do a bit of a stocktake of food and other consumables. Got to keep on top of that as one never knows when they will come in handy!
