What To Replace British Army Assualt Boots With?

Post by FlashPan »

Hey all,

"Spolier Alert" Now that Funkyprepper dropped the bomb shell about the British Army Assault boots shelf life of approx 5 years before the soles crumble to dust, any recommendations on an alternative?

I have a few pairs of the assualt boots stashed and they are nearly 10 years old and have had little or no wear on them, so now I guess I cannot count on them when I need them.

Sadly as with most of us I cannot fork out pots sof cash but now am worried what to buy as a long term storage replacemnet.

I know people have always spoken highly of the German para boot and they seem easily available...but still the "shelf life" question is hanging over my head.

Cheers

I have a pair of Austrian Army mountain boots that I fully expect to last me the rest of my life. They come up small though so buy a larger size than normal, if you do decide to buy.

I've had a pair of the older German Para boots for at least 20 years, I have worn them sparingly over the years & they have been treated with plenty of pecard dressing & stored in a dry place, I can honestly say they are still in great condition & are not showing any signs of deteriation too the soles over time like that seen on funkys video.

Cant speak for the more modern versions of this boot but the older model is certainly a bombproof option in my opinion, the only downside, if they have one, is the weight of them compared with modern boots like those from 5.11, but I know which pair would fail first in a long term SHTF world.

And if I ever do wear out the soles im betting a good cobbler could soon have some replacements fitted as the sole seems to be of a type that can be replaced & is not molded to the boot upper in the same way as the UK boots in the video.

I have two pairs of hi tec boots. One ten years, one six. The soles are getting thin and I will need to buy new soon. It is a good brand though.

I would buy some handmade boots instead. The big difference between handmade and "fancy brands" is that a pair of handmade are made so they can be repaired if something breaks or dries out, the "fancy brands" are made to trick people to pay a lot for a pair of boots that more or less can't be repaired.

BCH, I think most of them are already twenty years old already.
Even selected unissued are only about 25 quid a pair.

Never liked the Assault Boot anyway

I used to have a pair back in 1988 so any surplus sales could be over 20 years in storage, I know of an instance of a world war 1 tank engine being found in storage in the 80's so a pair of boots is easy to miss lay.

BCH have been responsible for more knee problems than any other piece of footwear. The heel is slightly too high for proper leg alignment. I can't even wear them at the allotment.
