I think it will work out. As my Mum used to say about my Brother, " He could fall in a barrel of sh@t and come out smelling of roses! My turn now.

Thanks all. As I said, I am not unique. Just watching the news about the steelworks up North. Best part of 2000 folks out of work, not to mention all the businesses depending on them spending their wages. At least I was not looking for a job at the same time as 1999 others in the same community.

I'll not judge you harshly mate, after my 22 I managed to leave as a scabby AB, not easy any more, its all about getting up the ladder, I had to stand firm.jansman wrote:Ha ha!Deeps wrote:The guy sounds like a chancer, happy to try and intimidate you until you called his bluff. When you countered he buckled and coughed up, he sounds a charmer, good luck with the Devon run, were you a GUZ rating when you were in the mob mate ? Diamond Lil's is long gone.jansman wrote:Well... Got paid what I was owed today. Boss said there was a 'problem ' with some of my overtime. Money docked £200. I didn't lose my rag. Just handed him my notice, and informed him that I would not be working it. The cheeky git tried to get all legal on me. I told him that along with the notice, owed holiday pay and the overtime, I would see him at the tribunal. He laughed and asked me if I knew what that would cost me to initiate. I told him I did, but the Union was paying so bring it on! At that he offered me 350 quid to walk away. I accepted. So that is that.
Regarding the job, I start in the morning! The new boss checked all my credentials after a chat and a cups. The money is not brilliant but it beats dole. Got to pick up a load in my shiny new Mercedes Sprinter down in Devon tomorrow. It will be a change!![]()
yes I was a Guz rating. Mind you my Dad and Grandad who were both lifers ( Dad on boats in the '60's) said I qualified as a NAAFI rating. To the uninitiated in Jackspeak ( Navy lingo) that means No Ambition And F*** all Interest!!
That takes me back.
Re: Need a good reason to prep?
Ha ha. My Dad and Grandad used to say that as they were Seamen. I was a boot neck.
Back on topic though, let's hope poppypiesdad gets sorted. I feel for everyone in a shite job situation. We all need a stable income.

Fair play mate, Booties don't exactly have the easiest of baby training. Good luck with the new gig.

Well done, Jansman, for taking a stand and winning
. Good luck in the new job, sounds like your old boss may have done you a favour! Feel sorry for your old workmates, hope they find themselves in the same frame of mind as you and a place that they can make choices from too.
