chaffing gel is ment to be used to keep food warm ,not to cook it , but you new that all ready .
i use it to heat up water and thats about its limit , it would warm tinned soup ect , but i doubt it would cook pasta .
took about 4/5 mins to warm enough water for 2 average sized cups of coffee , but again it did`nt bring it to a rolling boil .
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .

Was thinking for my winter car bag been safer than gas I've seen clip on pan stands / supports but can't seem to find them now..

Thinking re heating MRE or a cup of water for a brew or hot chocolate and aa alleged 2.5 hour burn time struck me as better than a similar size gas cartridge

I've boiled water on it and cooked a meal. Its a flame with a fairly good size surface area, it took about 10 minutes to bring a 12cm Zebra Stainless Steel Billy Can to boiling point. I've cooked eggs and porridge on chaffing gel too, in a 14cm Zebra, just using three tent pegs to keep the pot above the can of gel.

Here you go Andy, I did a review on it the other day.

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12525

and I would second what Metatron said. The tests I have carried out show it will boil water and reheat food. Almost forgot, it did cook a wee fry up of egg bacon and fried bread.

Stainless steel isn't a great conductor of heat, plus a large amount of water will change boil times, but yeah, its not fast but its cheap, reliable and safe to use inside or out.

i also removed the bottom "lid" with the can opener and it still holds the can but makes removal easier...

even better it fits inside my "mug" and i can thus store another spare can and some tea bags

its all about getting the right height for the sweet spot of the flame, ive used both these, you do need a wind guard as the flame will be useless if there is a draft, but ive also used it in my Ikea hobo stove made from a stainless utesil stand and i carry it with my Crusader kit as it works in the burner just fine. If you have kids you will know what i mean by the plastic syringe that comes with calpal or the like, its a much neater way to take it from the tin into the dish.
