Just a quick heads up for anyone who uses the uk version of Amazon. If like me you're a sucker for buying stuff on Amazon its worth checking the US (.com) version when you have a definite purchase in mind. Even when you include shipping and import tax you can often save a few quid. The delay for shipping doesn't even seem to be to bad - sometimes things I've ordered from the US get here quicker than my Uk orders. As an example, I ordered a quickclot pack today which worked out nearly £3.00 cheaper from the US than ordering the equivalent in the Uk.
It doesn't always work out but it can be worth the extra few minutes to compare and contrast...

Good shout, my default is amazon, i'll give that a look.
Re: sourcing your purchases on amazon?
Thanks for the heads-up. I never think to look at the US site because of the shipping costs even though I know things can be so much cheaper than in the UK.
I have occasionally bought things from US sites when there is no UK alternative and one thing you can get caught out on, and it's a bit hit-and-miss is customs duty and VAT. I think it depends a lot on the value of what you buy and what is declared on the paperwork sent with it.

As far as I can see all import taxes etc are paid with the shipping price. I've not had a problem with anything so far but I guess that could vary depending on what you purchase.

It is a good point. I use Amazon a lot. I recently got another Sawyer water filter and that came from the US but advertised in Sterling. Saved a couple of quid. It got here quicker than some fishing gear from Wigan!

I've seen some insane deals on there for knifes and tools, anyone ordered sharp things from the US?
Re: sourcing your purchases on amazon?
There are limitations on what you can order from US - certainly via amazon anyway. Firearms, ammunition, crossbows and I'm pretty certain most sharp things will be restricted too. Catapults are on that list as well.

I wonder what countries have the cheapest overall prices including shipping?MissAnpassad wrote:I mostly use the german Amazon, it's often a lot cheaper than the UK version.
If I was slightly geekier I would take a list of prepping essentials and research the best Amazon price per country...
