Interesting about liners - to be honest, I don't want to buy something I'd have to dispose of after a single use, unless it was literally as cheap as greaseproof paper, which I don't think is true of the parchment. On mse, quite a few people use the bags that cornflakes come in as a tray liner, and I like that idea of repurposing something I already have

I wouldn't mind buying a sheet of silicon that could be re-used - have to skewer holes in it, though, to help air circulation.

The dehydrator I've bought is the £30 Westfalia one, Laser 2000 I think: round. Baby version, not the super duper square one which I love the look of, but wasn't convinced it was the right buy for me.

Thanks for the input! Its all a complete mystery to me, so I'm glad of any conversation about it.

I'll second the baking parchment, cut to fit my circular dehydrator, I put very narrow slits in it too to try and help circulation, about 12-14 cuts going from the outside to the inside, leaving a good centimetre or so at either end so they're still fairly strong, just a milimetre or so wide. I'm on the look out for a fine plastic mesh that I can cut to size for 'soggier' things, I blanch carrots and onions before dehydrating and while the baking parchment works fine, I'm looking for something more permanent. I don't put one on every tray, if stuff falls through it still dries and collects on the baking parchment. Its worked so far.

Because the sun is shining and its a warm (for october) day. I've set up one of my rainwater butts inside the greenhouse and bogded up some drainage so it should fill whenever it rains.
The idea being the volume of water inside the barrel should keep the greenhouse slighty warmer in the wintertime.

sometimes it's just easier to give in to make life easier. You can reuse it time and again if its say non sticky food like carrots, celery, mushrooms etc. I would be wary of using the inside of cereal packets as they feel waxy, not sure if it is wax but if it was you wouldn't want that on your food!

I think we may be at cross-porpoises there. I mean the food grade stuff that sits next to the cornflakes, not the outer cardboard, honest!

Today I'm attending a first aid course. It's always good to keep your knowledge up to date. (Not to mention it's nice to be out of work for a couple of days)

Am adding a few new things to bob, more compact basha will allow space for new compact wash kit. also adding a few winter items now that its cold enough to wear the jacket that is normally in the bag.

Logs and more logs, gets cold in winter up in these hills, so having two if not all three woodburners going takes some logs, this is about a quarter of the total wood i have logged, got another approx 3 tons in cord lengths, hoping to buy another 26 tons in early feb, for myself and to sell as logs.
