oh those food things are a good idea and to put them in a plastic container. Actually I use that method to thaw out meat quicker, pour boiling water over and put a lid on, find it defrosts more evenly than the microwave if didn't remember to take meat out of freezer early in day for it to defrost naturally.Yorkshire Andy wrote:Think its more down to once the fridge has thawed out leaving the doors open stops mould growing...

Have you got a local scout / guides group? Some might be happy to help in bad weather never harms to find out who the leaders are especially if you have any skills / knowlage you might be able to share with them
I went with the small size kelly kettle in stainless steel. Planning to get the camping gaz bistro 300 not bought that yet, need to check money went in first then can get bro's wood burner at same time and the cartridges for the bistro stove of course! We don't get too many powercuts but if they get used alot and bad winters and powercuts are going to be more common I may upgrade later.
Food wise I'm not doing too bad I've filled a box with tinned food, biscuits, crisps etc. I have water and long life milk. Have loads of stuff for the doggies as I'd got their xmas stuff early with it saying it might snow by end of Sept.
Things like filling a bath of water I can't do as only have walk in wet room with shower.
I have blankets/extra duvets and throws and 2 (biggish) dogs to keep me warm in bed..lol! They have fleece jumpers too and their own blankets, though they like hiding under my thick fluffy dressing gowns.
I have electric blanket anyway and electric heater for bedroom/electric fire for lounge as cheaper than GCH as I get the Warmhouse discount (which only comes off electric bill for some reason) and hot water bottles if no heating!
It's the combination of no electric with deep snow happening at the same time that's going to be the most difficult. so have to hope it's one or the other or it doesn't stay off for too long if it goes off when its minus degrees day and night!!!
