Hammock Camp Out Kit Review

Post by poppypiesdad »

Morning all just back in from camping out in our woods , to get it into context , 5 mins from back door if it all went wrong

Have purchased a DD Hammock frontline , multi cam 3x3 tarp along with xl sleeve to pack it into , along with birthday present of a underblacket ,and a jura2 xl sleeping bag all from DD

The first mod that I did was to remove the the webbing supplied with the hammock and replace it with a 60cm DMM deema sling each end with a DMM boa carabina .

For suspension I have used 2.5 mm gripple wire with short ppiece of hose pipe to protect the tree.

So yesterday off I went to the wilds , weather was kinda stormy , high winds , spitting rain blowing through , but unusually 8℃ so warm .

Set up tarp with ridge line from 500 paracord , and did a basic triangle shape with a bias to the wind side . Pegs cut from fallen branches.

Slung hung the hammock from two trees , tightened gripple and levelled off , by this time the wind was really blowing ,but rain held off.

The underblanket was difficult to undersatand 8 attachment points but only 6 on the hammock , quick you tube video sorted that , two on each end attched to boa carbs and the other Ones on the fitted hanging points

Getting in is not that difficult , once in its easy entry in to sleeping bag , a bit slippy with all the nylon but a bit of a shuffle and your sorted .

With the winds it was interesting , I thought the trees would be stationary but there was a bit of a sway , not uncomfortable but possible soothing .

Fell asleep quite quickly , but awoke a few times , once when the rain started , and the other for a pee.

The sleeping bag is very warm combined with the underblanket was toasty warm , sweating at one point ,just wearing thermals helly hansen under armour type . Only to be awoken this morning with a Labrador nose in my back .

On the whole great nights sleep , despite the weather , and the noise of the wind . Can't wait for snow to do a proper cold overnight.

It's a great bit of kit isn't it? I had one up until a few weeks ago when a small un-noticed hole in the hammock became a huge tear. The hole was my fault, not the hammock. I'm on the look out for a replacement that's made from a ripstop material or I may try the Snugpak type.

Maybe, but I'm looking into some ripstop heavier duty alternatives first. I'm not as slim as i once was....
