Scottish Newbie

Post by Lyonic »

Hello o7, i am new to prepping but i find the whole concept of it facinating. Due to being a poor student at the moment the only preps i have are a 1 man tent, sleeping bag, massive camping rucksack with waterproof cover and a 175lb crossbow and air rifle. My plan would be to raid easy targets at start due to lack of my own supplies.

Welcome.

I must say that your plan of raids is not to my liking. Prepping isn't more expensive than you self decide to spend on it. A lot of people in his world live more or less on rice, so can you. If you buy one extra can of beans every time you shop, you will soon have food that will last you weeks. Equipment can be made from recycled materials like trash, exampel: http://www.wa6otp.com/2.5can.JPG

One way to get free fruit is to look around peoples gardens in the late summer/autumn, if there is a lot of fruit laying on the ground, they most likely don't want it and you can ask them if you may take it. I've done that hundreds of times and I have never been turned down. They actually ask me if I need bags for the fruit.

Learn how to forage and fish, there is an abundance of wild edible things.
And plant things, you can even have a small garden on your kitchen counter. You can for example put some dried green peas on top of soil in a pot, in a couple of weeks you eat the sprouts like sallad, a lot cheaper than buying it.

Welcome to the forum, no such thing g as an easy target. Civil unrest will cause the unprepared to rush out and panic buy ,shelves will empty quickly and things will turn nasty. That would mean the only easy target would be the vulnerable, those that have no way of Defending themselves and more than likely don't have much either! Stock piling g food is not that expensive £5 extra spent on tins a week soon adds up , add the fact that it takes one easy looking target to be better prepared than they look and shots are being traded .

Hi Lyonic, welcome to the forum. Maybe you could elucidate on your statement "raiding easy targets"? It will probably stop people jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Lyonic, I totally agree with Deeps; speaking as another 'poor student' who has no intention if following a plan such as yours, but has no wish to be tarred with the the same brush due to academic status.

To re-iterate what other members have said, you have confused prepping with something more heinous entirely. May I suggest you read the forum posts and alter your thinking? there is a lot of excellent advice to be had here for all budgets.

If you wish to remain on your current course of action, there are 15 universities in Scotland and 20 colleges, statistically that gives me a fair chance of not being in the same one as you.

Apologies if my post sounds a mite unfriendly in parts.
Plan for the worst......but enjoy every minute of it.

I agree entirely Deeps. I find such ideas distasteful and disturbing.
