A UK friendly specific EDC gadget thread!
Re: A UK friendly specific EDC gadget thread!
Briggs's metal pencil sharpener idea has been adopted by me, indeed having a few cheap pencils in the outdoor kit serves two purposes, if there was an award for prepper ideas Briggs would have a nice bit of silverware for that one
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: A UK friendly specific EDC gadget thread!
Too true Plymtom. I hang on every word.
Here's the list of my EDC contents.
Watch: Tissot PR50
Wedding ring: A wedding ring (titanium)
Phone: LG G3 (with removable battery and micro SD slot)
Phone #2: LG Optimus L3 (occasional use and has removable battery and micro SD slot)
Keys: Eight keys including a star key, car key and steering lock key, a trolley token. True Utility Key System (just the main bunch bit). Victorinox Mini Champ. Energizer keychain light. Ferro rod (looks like a key). Leatherman Brewzer. About 3ft of paracord (due for removal - pointless). Pocket clip.
Wallet: Maxpedition Spartan in stupid green. Contents: Three credit cards, two ID's, print off of all emergency contact information, 8 bits of scrap paper cut in small squares, Bullet Space Pen, Thrunite Ti2, spare aaa battery, £15 in fivers (emergency use), £2 in £1 coins (emergency use), spare contact lens, elastic band, mini micro USB phone charger, credit card multitool, eight strike anywhere matches wrapped in duct tape, flat nail clippers, medical information card, spare/secondary LG G3 battery, tooth flosser, cotton bud, one small bit of cotton wool.
And I think that's it!

Re: A UK friendly specific EDC gadget thread!
Here's my current EDC set up.
I did a breakdown of my altoid tin contents in another thread. This setup hasn't changed as it works well for me. I've added a laminated card (covered up) with emergency numbers on it, car insurance, environment agency, vets, doctors, etc, etc. And a £10 or £20 note goes in as well. Mrs B has a similar altoid tin set up for her EDC which sacrifices some of the tools to make space for contact lenses and some stuff she told me to include which I have no idea what it does.
The other bits and bobs are:
Wallet with ID slot. I've covered it up but the info on here is my blood group, donor number, FAC and SGC numbers, home address, Next of Kin, insurance, doctor, etc, etc.
Leatherman Tread - New, a bit gimmicky but it's growing on me as I'm finding it more and more useful plus it's non-lethal
A cotton handkerchief - it must be my age but I carry several of these now
A leatherman Piranha tool on a carabiner with enough paracord so it hangs off a belt loop and in a pocket just right.
A Heinnie Haynes mini knife and bottle opener with a very sharp seat belt cutter that also doubles up as a ferro striker. It's on a lanyard so I can wear it as a neck knife. Blade is about 3cm. The lock mechanism is adjusted so it's non-locking.
Note pad and pencil
Other stuff not in photo would be smartphone, coins and my Beretta 1301
Depending on what work or chores I'm doing, I may carry an EDC pouch with more of the above plus additional first aid, Leatherman Rebar and driver bits, torch, tampon, ferro-rod, steristrips, inner tube, pencil sharpener, and loads more stuff which I'll break down if anyone is interested.

Talking of tinder boxes, I've recently added a couple of wrapped, sealed Zip firelighters to mine. These are a lot less expensive than the specialist bushcraft emergency watertight fire starters and seem to work just as well.

How about your first youtube video shows us around you tinderbox - what's in it and why?
Or you could just post some pictures on here.

It's an old metal tin with tape to make it weathertight, contents are: small tub of vaseline, cotton wool, char cloth, ferro steel, metal eyeliner pencil sharpener, wrapped firelighters, some birch strips, some paper, bic lighter, piece of inner tube, swan vestas and some weatherproof matches with an emery board taped to the inside of the lid.
Go Anton!

Actually, I'm interested in the lady EDC for gift purposes. My wife is very poorly organised and I've tried to get her gadgets that are useful, but she doesn't seem to take the most important stuff with her. She leaves without her keys and phone half the time and has been caught out before.
I wonder if there is something I could get for her that she would actually use.
