For a long time (10 years+) I've had the feeling that I should be able to provide for myself if anything bad happened. As read in a few threads about people panic buying food etc, i live in a small village with a couple of shops, and every winter when the news reports that we are about to have the coldest winter since time began, things sell out within a few hours. For the last few years I've been ahead of this, by 'stocking up' over september and october and grow some of my own fruit and veg.
I dont watch much TV, but a few months ago discovered the programme Doomsday Preppers, and whilst i was saying what a really good idea these people had, the mrs thought they were completely bonkers, yet shes always thankfull when people are stripping the shops bare in a panic in case they get snowed in and we already have a nice stash in the cupboards. I never knew people planned for some of the things like they do in the US, with some of them hiring out of town contractors to build entire secret underground bunkers etc, but thats what led me to find the UK community of 'preppers'.
I've read thousands of pages of information, including my local councils disaster and response documentation, as well as for the area where my kids and parents live (50 miles away) with more than one plan for travelling from one to the other if i really had to.
My intentions would be to bug in, I have an 8x3 dark cool storage cupboard that is going to be my main store, and a constant source of mountian water at the bottom of my garden. I already have a LOT of equipment for if i really had to leave fast, including my 'grab bag' that lives near the front door. For years ive carried an 'emergency kit' in the works van, as well as basics in the car, I'll get round to listing whats in them in another post.
But thats a little bit about me, and how I've ended up here, and, thanks for having me.
