Aluminium is always a cheaper option because it's a cheaper metal. In fact, I've heard that it's not even proper aluminium anymore, most is an aluminium alloy. Stainless steel is a much stronger metal and is more expensive, so basically, if you can go for steel, you should.
All that nonsense about aluminium and dementia was debunked years ago, it was mostly just a media hype thing.

Re: kettle arrived but..
Stainless steel is stronger and will last longer, plus you'll struggle to burn a hole through it
But, give me aluminium everyday if it means carrying it on my back.

My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.
Re: kettle arrived but..
I think it will only get used rarely in event of power cuts going on longer than usual. If we do start getting more powercuts more often I may upgrade to the bigger size and stainless steel. I just wanted something safe to keep around in storage 'just in case'.

I'm very happy with my aluminium one as your aware Kat
And iirc aluminiun is a better conductor than stainless
One thing I can suggest looking for in cheap shops is one of these...

Makes cleaning the soot out much easier before putting it away
