Hello and welcome .
I'm pretty new here myself but have always made sure where possible I have what I may need for most situ.
As for telling people and making it common knowledge I havnt really I do what I do alone however I have a large dependant family.
I never called myself a prepper by its name . Had a few months where I kind of thought my self as one but I've seen several people's faces over the years when you mention the name.

I'm sure in numbers getting by after a event wold be easier safer ,shared effort ,strength ,but knowing your group is essential, stronger charrectors, leader wannabes ,lazy people ,can you take orders easily ,take criticism constructive or not ,have you family?,how would you react to them being given jobs tasks asked/ told what to do work wise that will may need undertaking for the group
how do your potential friends group deal with stress over long term. What can they bring to the table or do they intend to just take .Trust is earned and takes time ,so caution is my thought.
Financial meltdown ,national grid collapse temp or longer ,unexpected colder winters .personal finance ,issues are my main concearnes .
Few possertives few negatives to think on ,their my thoughts not those shared by all I guess so don't take it all as is I'm not meaning to offend anyone just giving you thoughts I have had on deciding on groupes meeting people and trust and my ,my family safety in such situ.

Enjoy your stay ,hope you find what your looking for here.
Good luck my friend

Great site btw.. Been reading this forum for months now just not go around to join until then, so my first post. So if this is in the wrong place or make a mistake then sorry…go easy on me please J

Just wondered if there is any preppers in Cumbria or in the Carlisle area willing to meet? To be honest feel very isolated at the minute prepping on my own, been doing it for around 3-4 years now on a budget but got a lot of the basics.. Scared more so as my area and the sheeple in it seem unware of what will happen if economic collapse comes! They seem completely unaware they only want to shop and watch sport! So of course I wouldn’t tell them that im a prepper….
:)
I think we would stand a better chance IF we were a collection of people like they do in the states rather than being on your own… ;)

take care everyone and nice meeting you all finally...

I Would be willing to meet up with anyone like my self who wants to survive any breakdown of society as we would have the mental capacity and would be needed to recreate the order of civilization, just contact me for a meet up.

My only advice is to get out there and become part of the community. The word prepper is a broad umbrella term and can mean many different thing to different people, to some its future proofing getting solar panels and wind turbines so that they are not hit by high fuel bills, to others it is becoming self sufficient at growing there own food. There are most properly loads of people in your area that prep but do not consider themselves preppers after all that is what those crazy people do in America not sane people who only have extra food and candles in the cupboards in case of an emergency. If possible join groups like wine making or bee keeping ( all useful things to know) volunteer at city farms, petting farm or even the local organic farm down the road Think of the things you think as prepping but break it down into smaller size pieces and find a group for that peace in that way you become part of a community and it is that community that know each other and trust each other and will band together and help out in an emergency.

Good post, don't forget to forge good relations with neighbours too, if everyone is at home protecting their 'turf' then these are the people you will either be banding with or fighting against. It's also handy for day to day stuff too of course. :D

In an ideal world it would be good to join up with other preppers in a SHTF situation. Safety in numbers etc etc. The question is who can you trust? You'd have to meet up with people face to face beforehand to find out about them. There are lots of forums of all subjects with people who pretend to be something they're not so I wouldn't go by just forming a relationship online. If I did meet someone, I obviously would make sure that I didn't invite them to my house, or even the cafe just around the corner, for that initial contact.
