Like that night I spent on the street in Dublin. That was very unpleasant and could have really done with the bivvy then! In fact, had the bus station not opened when it did, providing shelter at 4am, I could have gotten ill that night.

This is why I want this kit. For those needless and ridiculous situations that I know I'm capable of finding myself in.

If I'm going to end up wandering round in the middle of the night its most likely to be after a night on the lash so all I'd have is my minimal pocket EDC, even if I took a bag with me there's a good chance I'd leave it in a boozer. I've kipped under bridges or bushes before now when I've become 'socially confused'. I admire your prior planning if you take a bag like this with you on a night out.

That night was a result of a spontaneous 24hr trip from Holyhead with my brother. I've got mates over in Dublin and thought it would be fun to just turn up at their house. I didn't even consider that they might be in Cuba.

We did go out on the lash, and we did only have what was in our pockets. Not even jackets. We also had no money left by the end of the night and when we were ejected from every bar in the whole city we found that all the hostels were closed and we didn't have any cards for a hotel.

We ended up in an alleyway at one point huddling like two mountain men in a snow cave. There are a lot of people in cardboard boxes in Dublin. I felt terrible for them enduring that night after night, most are just mentally ill people without advocates.

Even now I think of that night and will often give money to big issue sellers having an inkling as to what they've probably been through in their lives.

This little bag, should I want to go on a spontaneous trip again, will discreetly go neatly inside any other bag I have and has pretty much everything I could need. That's peace of mind.

In fact, you've got me thinking. I'm off to Leeds tomorrow for a metal festival and I'll only have what's in my pockets. Might slip a foil blanket into my pocket just in case. :D

The poncho is Water-proof ripstop nylon. http://www.kombatuk.com/view.php?ViewProduct=115

and the snugpak is an original http://www.snugpak.com/outdoor/responsepak
My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

I've got some of those ponchos in my eBay watch list. They look like they could be a nice vesatile bit of family camping kit.

I ordered a two person SOL emergency bivvy, and also accidentally ordered a one man Mountain Warehouse bivvy that I forgot to remove from my Amazon basket. Doh! Ah well. Might make a video to compare for YouTube.

I've been quite pleased with Mountain Warehouse kit in the past so may end up keeping it for my car kit. If it's good that is!

It was brill man! Although mosh pits are a bit much for me these days, I just hugged the front barrier and hoped not to be pulled in. :D All went without a hitch and so my extra few bits and bobs went unused. Better to have it and not need it and all that though, eh?

I did make good use of my favourite EDC items though, my collapsable bottle for toilet water and trouser leg full of snacks saved me a good few quid in refreshments. :x

My new little module #4 bag arrived yesterday. Not ideal to be honest, it jingles like a christmas bell. I hate christmas. But I think the bag could still work out ok. If I can

The good:

*Didn't cost much.
*Holds quite a lot of sh*t! Lots of space left over.
*Has belt for use as a vagina pack and a storage pocket to pack it away into. This can be utilised as extra storage with belt is either in use or left behind.
*Lots of extra little nooks and crannies for small bits and bobs

The bad:

*Zips jingle jangle - I think I'll need to replace with paracord zip pulls.
*Holds too much sh*t - I managed to fit everything into it that I wanted but it still kept asking for more. Which usually means that I'll end up filling it with stuff I don't need.
*Belt isn't long enough to wear around the shoulder - might just get rid of it and put a paracord strap onto it. I'll probably never get round to it, but the option to wear it like this, on the front, seems very desireable. Image
*Quality is still to be proven. Even though the fabric looks good, the zips look cheap and will probably break easily. If the zips go, the thing is useless.

I'm a bit annoyed that I've misplaced my Sawyer mini and so can't get this pack completed yet. But my bivvy arrives tomorrow so that's exciting!

The belt looks like normal webbing, easy enough to replace/lengthen. I had to do it on a camera rucksack that had short shoulder straps, it was ok when it was on, but you couldn't loosen them enough to ditch it quick if something happened. Maybe I'm getting a bit of tubby... :o

Good shout, thanks mate. I've got a webbing belt upstairs, I'll see how that works out. If it does I can get another on eBay for about £2.

That said, I still like the idea of a very thin and light paracord option. Anyone know a good knot to tie two ends together?
