Sorry sparkyy don't care what underfloor heating looks like it's the warmth on my feet and the whole room heat I enjoy , but yes I see the beauty in a log fire , it's just the wife doesn't ,

Ive had this often about my fires, we have central heating all smart phone controlled fancy pants stuff but the second we have a power cut it heats the house about as good as licking the walls would yet they still don't get it the fires just keep going they're much nicer to look at than the underfloor heating or radiators and miles cheaper to run you can also cook dinner or boil water on the fires during a power cut good luck resting your coffee pot on the radiators. I'm not as into it as a lot of you guys with veg gardens and animals etc purely because of time (work etc) we do have a few months worth of food stocked though at all times. Similar to everyone else I don't talk to most about it because I got sick of trying to explain having a sensible approach to brain dead sheeple.

Have you looked into ways to keep your underfloor central heating and hot water operating during a prolonged power cut?

For all the nuggets who don't own a torch etc there are plenty who do think ahead, maybe not to the lengths that some of us on here go to but sometimes I'll be talking to someone and they'll come out with a bit of prepping, even if its just having a mini car kit. I usually tell them I'm a bit of a weirdo and like to have stuff for 'just in case', some relate to it but some folk would rather not think about it, each to their own and all that.

One of the chaps mentioned likes oriental food. So I took him some pak choi and mitsuna greens from my polytunnel as I have more than we will eat. His first reply was, " have you grown this?" Then, "Why? Its cheap enough to buy" followed by , " if its not from a shop, I dont fancy it!"

This is a fella who lives in the gym and only eats 'organic' etc.

One wonders at the future of mankind.

Instead I rely more and more on the name "Zombie." My dictionary describes zombies as "...a person who is or appears lifeless, apathetic, or completely unresponsive to their surroundings." That really seems to fit the bill a lot better !!

Never mind waiting for the "Zombie Apocalypse," they're here already, they're living all around us, mindlessly watching TV soaps, attending football matches, buying pre-packed highly processed junk food and putting all their trust in the government to look after them when anything goes wrong !!

The thing with all this sheeple thing is that people hate anything that is not their own. Fundamental tribalism - if you aren't one of us, then we will hate you.

If someone finds out that you prepare for unusual circumstances, or if they find out that you're loyalty is not to the same country, or thing, or if you're not of their own religious beliefs (science is sort of a religion of itself now too), people will think you're weird.

In my world, I keep myself to myself. I have my habits, hobbies, interests and beliefs that others will not like because they don't share them. But it's just one of them things.

I'm not a fan of the 'sheeple' term myself, as Dangerman says, anything that makes things 'them and us' doesn't sit well with me although it doesn't bother me, its just a bit...cliquey. I get what people are meaning by it though.

Hot water is easy enough but under floor heating is quite tricky from wood burners, ideally you would use the log burner to heat a heat store then run the UFH and central heating from that, it would be very difficult to do the UFH without electricity to run a pump. Central heating I have done before on an entirely gravity based system, so it just thermosyphons without the need for a pump
