Same here - especially being vegetarian
I was just thinking that dogs would be probably easier to be taken care off in the wild (or WTSHTF) because they actually obey your orders but with cats YOU'RE the servent and cats tend to be more fussy with food. What's your opinion folks?

I think you need a dog to let you know if anybody's sneaking around; and you need a cat to keep the place from being over run with rodents . So both have their skills and their jobs to do

Ah but a cat will eventually say "Sod this!" and go off and find its own food...then bring it to you. Like my cats do if I forget to feed them....get a bunch of dead animals everywhere, and two very pleased kitties.

I had the opportunity to share a brew with John "Lofty" Wiseman a few years back, he used to run two week long survival courses as an intro for the troops, first day he would present them with a live, wild rabbit, they had to prep it for eating, and have it for supper the first night, one squaddie refused to kill his and let it go.
He coped well for most of the course, but in the second week he gave them another rabbit, the guy who had first refused nearly tore the rabbit limb from limb.
The reason for his change in attitude, his survival, he was hungry, he hadn't eaten properly for over a week, he needed food intake.
We are very lucky at the moment, we might get a bit peckish and might skip a meal or two every now and then, most, if not all of us do not know what real hunger is, hopefully we never will and can continue to make reasonable choices, but if it is a case of go "hungry" or the Guinea pigs go in the pot, I am not going to be going hungry.

But surely as preppers we should have enough food to see us through lean times without having to resort to eating the family pet(s)...the-gnole wrote: We are very lucky at the moment, we might get a bit peckish and might skip a meal or two every now and then, most, if not all of us do not know what real hunger is, hopefully we never will and can continue to make reasonable choices, but if it is a case of go "hungry" or the Guinea pigs go in the pot, I am not going to be going hungry.
