All i'm finding is mini. And the larger ones look REALLY slender.

I've got this image of a torch the width of a pint glass in my head, but then again i've only ever used the mini versions.

Maglite is the brand. Something like the 4d

I've been a bit wary of the cheap 'million candle power' rechargable varieties as we bought a couple of different ones for work and when the time came to need them, they didn't work!

What you want room lighting ? These are great

Anything with a d on it for your dual purpose torches ;)
I've got 3d which is fine and a 6 d which is a very decent size. Both brilliant intruder detergents, shine in the eyes then a quick poke to see it there OK!!!!
Recommend Duracell batteries as they seem the heaviest :D

I just got my parents one of these for their loft: http://www.screwfix.com/p/ae0181-rechar ... 240v/1047d

Not a torch as such, but rechargeable, portable, self supporting and bright enough to light a small room.

They can be had cheaper or brighter off ebay but without the warranty and easy exchange Screwfix have.

Going to get a couple of the 10w ones for us...

They looked a bit bulky at first from the photo but when you read the dimensions they are not actually that big at all. I May have to add a couple of those to my collection. Seriously considering a good old Maglite now as well.

They come apart though, the handle and frame just screw/bolt on. it would be easy to take the yellow frame/handle away and use a hook or piece of wire/string to hold it where you wanted...

Adapt and improvise and all that! :D

For round the house I have several Energizer 3 LED head torches.

They take 3xAAA batteries, are bright enough for anything round the house and garden plus they are lightweight and hands free.

Mine cost be about £5-6 each

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Energizer-63264 ... B003YC9RO6

There is one in each car, one hanging by the front and back doors plus a few others kicking round the house. I have plenty of eneloop AAA rechargables now I am getting to the bottom of my stash of pager batteries.

On top of those, I have a couple of old D cell maglights that I have converted to LED and some cree LED torches with 18650 batteries that are seriously bright. A few LED lanterns for good measure as well :)
