I like the video, although I do like carrying a sleeping bag/liner. I've needed it twice in my life once in the last load of heavy snow storms, where the A27 was shut down after an accident and everyone was stuck in their cars overnight, the other was in Hampshire, again when the police shut down the road and took everyone to a community centre and I had a sleep in the corner.

Best buy this year has to be the £40 i blew on a as good as new british army Artic sleeping bag with compression sack (now not the normal stuff sack you get with most sleeping bags this one actually lets you compress it without ripping the bag)

Ive used cheap bags in the past (argos specials) and the likes and they have been errr horrid and cold anything less than a 4 season bag forget it for winter use especially in a car they seem to be colder than tents IME

ive got the artic bag and a goretex cover in there to about the size of a basket ball

Just watch the sizing of the bags ideally get in one before you buy as the standard size is just big enough for me at about 5ft 8 tall....

People all too quick go mad with their car bag... My biggest part is food because im a greedy fat bar steward (civi 24 hour ration pack http://evaq8.co.uk/Day-Ration-Pack-3000 ... enu-9.html )

along with a mess tin small camping stovehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Outdoor-Picnic-Butan ... SwpDdVfk-X (the micro £5 china type)

and small gas cartridge) to supplement the travel kettle)

but have a full change of clothes and thermal base layers (trousers socks, thermal long jons, thermal base layer top, t-shirt, hoodie, boxers, hat , gloves, pack away waterproof breathable trousers and jacket all in a vac storage bag to keep it all dry and very compact... and a change of goretex shoes

along with the sleeping bag above a 3/4 length thermarest (as above the idea of a cold service station / community hall floor doesn't bode well)

so i have food drink , warm dry clothing , a way of staying dry and getting a good nights sleep even if its below freezing... im well beyond what 99% of the population have to hand
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Just remember and let it 'out' from time to time, especially before using it (for as long as you can) so that it gets as much air back in as it can. You want maximum toastiness from a sleeping bag. I'm sure you would be all right in the UK but it might be the difference between being warm/good kip and cold/bad kip.

yep can't beat giving the bag a good kicking and shake as soon as you "make camp" longer the better to let the filling expand but space comes at a premium in a smallish car come spring when it leaves the car it will be in a bin liner to keep the dust off in the attic

Fair one mate, Her Maj has got a cheap Tesco one that I used for kipping at work (I was allowed, it was a 24 hour thing  ) and while its not overly toasty its 'compact and bijou' so made the cut for her car kit. Its in a compression sack but she's still saying it will be coming out after winter so it will be getting 'released' up to the loft. I've got a soft shell jacket I'm using to stick in the back of her car when we go any distance, its not in the bag so 'puffed up'. All the other bags are in the loft and unfolded, I've collected more than we need over the years but you never know.....
