You can get an indoor gas fire which in run by cartridges which last for up to 2 1/2 hours. Size is 11 x 6 1/2 x 11. when they say 'well ventilated' what do they mean exactly? does it have to be RIGHT NEXT TO an open door or window? or there has to be a window open not too far away? how much does it have to be open?

Why don't you ring the company and actually ask them? I'm sure they have the knowledge to help you with those questions.

Yes, that's the one. Itsybitsy 's recommendation to contact the Company directly is definitely the way to go. In your case it would be e-mailing them unless you can ask someone to phone them up. I actually tried a few mins ago but they only take queries Mon - Fri.

If anyone's planning on burning anything indoors I always tell them to get a CO detector, however they tend to use an audible alarm so I've done a bit of digging.... Is this any good for you ?

A simple way of heating up food without a portable stove, is to use a fondue set with tea lights. It might not become boiling hot, but hot enough for it to get some warmth into you.

If the electricity is out, then it isn't sure that the ventilation is working. Many modern houses are dependent on the electricity to make the ventilation work.

That's interesting thanks. I didn't know they existed!

Have got a kelly kettle now but I think I'd have to sit in the doorway with kettle on the outside, the back door is glass so I could have it just outside the door, close and still be able to see when it boils to open it quickly and bring kettle in to make tea/fill hot water bottles. Got a big bag now full of twigs, pine cones and I got some cotton wool balls and vaseline in there too and being watching the videos on you tube.

Also got one of the camping gaz 300 stoves sports direct were selling them for £14 each and some canisters but not tried it yet as didn't want to start using the gas until I needed it! Plan would be to use that for quick meals to make gas last longer and use kelly kettle for heating water where got free fuel from twigs and would likely be wanting to refill several times a day (if electric was off for a prolonged period). haven't tried kelly kettle yet either so not sure how much it smells of burning as my back door is right next to neighbours back door (with open slatted fence), don't want them thinking my house is on fire if I was trying to boil water early morning or late at night!

I heard rubber smells so wouldn't be using rubber but its only the smallest kelly kettle so I can't see it would smell like a huge bonfire or anything???

Given the rumours of how much prices are going to be going up in future I wish I had a house with a chimney now so I could have saved up for a wood burning stove in the house!

Thanks. It would kept in the spare room when not in use, but not necessarily used in there. I'll have to go look at it again as I can't remember the details. but i think it said it was 'out of stock'.

This looked interesting too but I'm not sure whether the water poured in has to be warm or pre-boiled or can be just cold bottled water?

It may have been similar to the things i was looking at before on ebay and didn't relaise you could only use it once and the food had to be stuff that was specifically designed for that type of 'flameless cooker'? or could be different as it shows them putting packet rice in and there's also a pic of regular eggs in it?

back to the tealight fondue set thing... the thing that looks like a little pan (i'm assuming you put cheese in) could you also use that warming like baked beans? (or soup) , cook bacon on the hotplate? just wondering how useful it would be as an indoor cooker without having to cook outdoors? ..or boil a quick 'pan' of water in the fondue pan for tea (instead of using it for cheese)
