Cold Weather

Can any of the climbers/walkers share or recommend good shops or websites that sell good quality warm clothes.. not ski stuff...? I'm ok, I don't feel the cold - but hubby is on heart meds and he really suffers with cold, even in this living room where the stove keeps the temp at a constant 25/27 degrees.

Something like tog 24 down jacket? Remember when it was -15°c walking to a mates house with warm lined trousers a t shirt and a down jacket......

karrimor is a great brand, I have a base layer set from them and their walking boots and they are fantastic, very comfortable and warm and they last forever

If your budget allows, Merino wool base layers are about as good as you can get.

Available in various brands, but do a search on amazon for Merino wool base layers and there will be plenty of options and have a look at the feedback to determine which is the best. Mountain Warehouse also do their own line which can often be purchased at half price.

You can't beat Merino wool thermals. The Brambling also suffers from the cold Lil, and I got him some Merino thermal long sleeved tops from Aldi a couple of years ago when he came out of hospital and was complaining of feeling cold while he was housebound recovering, he lives in them in the winter.

Endicotts do some very good value wool (not Merino) base layers. The Italian ones are excellent but scratchy as hell when new.

Yaaay more to google - ta. Expense doesn't really matter, as long as they aren't mink or cashmere lol. I love wool and only wear wool or cotton myself, so I like the sound of the merino ones. He wouldn't wear scratchy Featherstick, he's too grumpy but ty anyway

They made me grumpy - I had to wash them about 5 times with a pair of jeans to soften them up!
