I've been lurking for a few weeks and just joined in.
I'm located in a big city and work will ensure it stays that way for a while. I am a little older than many of you, by the sound of things, and have some health issues, so I have always tended to keep plenty of stocks in to cover times when I am not well enough to go out to the shops. I have also often worked ridiculous hours and that helped me see the sense in having plenty of stocks. I have two short term projects for expanding on my preparedness. One is to increase my protection against outages of several days, like power cuts, unrest, snow, and so on. The other is to assemble better bags, or modules for bags, for improved every day equipment and for heading hotel-wards in a hurry if I need to.
I'm concerned by all the bad news and the fragility of big city infrastructure. I happened to watch a bit of "Hunted" a few months ago and started wondering why I didn't know how to do most of that stuff, and what would happen if something caused me to need to rush away.
I hope I can find something to contribute but it will probably be nearly all learning from you at first - I have some practical skills but most of you seem streets (or should that be hills?) ahead.
