That's *very* interesting, thank you junmist!

I wonder why its not safe to eat leafy green crops no matter how you process them, whereas it is safe to eat root crops that have been thoroughly treated in the way he suggests? I don't get the logic of that, not quite. But its absolutely the only thing I've ever seen to pay attention to this particular issue, so its great! I'll follow up his linkie within the article too, many thanks.

It's probably because you are first of all sanitising the root veg, then peeling them. The peel will keep most of the nasties out, so by removing that, your veggies are safe to eat. I think you could probably still wash leafy veg in a bleach solution, which is what they do to bagged salad, after all.
