Yep the interchangeable blades are a great idea. No bigger pain in the backside than trying to resharpen a built in sawYorkshire Andy wrote: just had a good look at it and your right
even more on the plus side it looks like a fairly standard black and decker jigsaw esk blade pattern

Was in millets a few days ago, they are doing the Stainless Leatherman Wingman for £40 in the sale!
I hadnt looked at the Gerber stuff, but that looks good.
i just had me wife get me the Wave for Christmas, i couldnt decide on the locking or sliplock blade thing, went for the Wave for the extra tools and the fact you can get extra screwdriver bits for it, but for £40 the Wingman has sliplock blades, bargin.
i just wont have the Wave on my belt when i go into town, it is an awsome bit of kit though.

Re: Finally settled on a knife less multi tool
I don't know if any of you have figured it out as yet but each of those good quality multi-tools has the tools/blades attached using removable torques/hex fasteners.
You can remove the knife blade and replace it with a spacer.
I ran a poll on several different forums sites a while back and found that the most used part of the multi-tool systems of any brand was the pliers, followed by the assorted screwdriver bits.
Most folks use them as a pocket tool kit that just happens to have a knife blade attached, which they seldom use.
So not having the knife blade due to your legal situation would make very little impact on the usefulness of the tool.
We should run a poll on how many people have actually been stopped by the police due to the presence of a multi-tool on their person. With all the dissolving of regional police forces and continual cutting of police budgets they should have other matters to concentrate on and the presence of a knife blade on a multi-tool the least of their worries.

I have the older square Blast with the screwdriver bit set (and any normal 1/4 hex screwdriver bits will fit the holder take that mountain biking with me.)munchh wrote:Was in millets a few days ago, they are doing the Stainless Leatherman Wingman for £40 in the sale!

Just a couple of comments.......
Just to clear up (or not ) the legal side
You do not need to give any reason whatsoever to carry a sub 3 inch non locking blade, zilch, zero , nada...
you may quite legally say because I want to
(unless you are stupid enough to say "its for defence innit")
.....you can get done for "offensive weapon" for anything if you say that including a feather
Now the fun part for discussion...
, there have been a few threads on various forums about even the "Leatherman" type non locking multitools being possibly illegal due to the fact that when open and held in the hand the handles then make it a "locking blade"....
Personally I disagree (as it passes the readily foldable test) and believe 99% of police officers will see it for what it is ....a tool (and even the locking one) , but thought I would just tell you that it is a question being asked...

That's why I wanted a knife less one takes any ambiguity from any potential situation along with a basic Sak
To and from work i Cary a Gerber suspension which has a locking blade but that is used at work
And when I used it in a public place the WPC stood watching and flapping was just happy I stopped the crashed car from smoking ( by unbolting battery terminal )

Re: Finally settled on a knife less multi tool
I was stopped by a policeman when I was a kid, I had been round a friends fixing his bike so had a multi tool in my pocket and was told I could be nicked for "going equipped"!
it stuck with me for a long time, I have various sub 3" slip lock blades now, I don't think about having them in my pocket, I put them in leather slips so they are not quick to get out, I recon that's enough for anyone to realise im not a mugger of a knife defence type.
