Where I live in leicester, we have a number of man made canals/rivers, unfortunately they have a tendency to flood on a very regular basis, it only has to threaten rain and they seem to bloody swell. We also have a man made Brooke running through a place called Syston in its town centre and that has caused a lot of problems over the years, especially cos there are houses that are only about 8 feet from the Brooks edge.

Theres a small brook near me, it runs through a local woods and then underground and comes out about 100 yards further down, a few years back it blocked up the underground part and overflowed, running into where they've built a few new houses, at the back of these was a wall, and hour or so later the weight took out the wall and the water came out pretty much where the other end of the pipe was. Nature one, wall nil.
Now they've added drain holes in the wall....

I'm going on a Ross on Wye canoe trip soon so to be fully prepared I've been learning 'Duelling Banjo'.

Doesn't Richard Hammond live in Ross on Wye? Might be worth keeping an eye out.Briggs 2.0 wrote:I'm going on a Ross on Wye canoe trip soon so to be fully prepared I've been learning 'Duelling Banjo'.

I'm not joking! We've ditched the TV and Sky subscription to do something less boring. Mrs B has had a guitar for a couple of years so I thought I'd try the banjo and I've got to say it's good fun. As a prep it's good for keeping the ol' hand-eye skills going as I'm getting on a bit now.Deeps wrote:On the guitar or on the banjo ?Briggs 2.0 wrote:I'm going on a Ross on Wye canoe trip soon so to be fully prepared I've been learning 'Duelling Banjo'.
Prepping wise I've been upping my comms starting with making a robust frame for my FT857 and tuner made from 15mm copper pipe and fittings. I used 30 tee pieces, 8 bends and 4metres of pipe. It's come out okay and should offer solid protection for the radio when I'm out and about. I've also dusted off the FT817 and i'm planning on taking that to the Forest of Dean for a bit of QRP.
I've stocked up on heating fuel which is at the lowest price it's been in the last ten years. I'm burning oil instead of logs at the moment which is totally back to front logic. Add this to the drop in petrol and we're about £100 better off a month so those funds have been reinvested into the usual stuff.

Prompted by how well Decaff does on the dehydrating front, I've got my dehydrator going again
this time its some cheap peppers - 3 for £1, which is good these days, even if they are a bit small.
The grapes I did ages ago are holding up really well, so I'm pleased with that.
I'm also researching how to use aloe vera - its all very well cutting a bit off a leaf, but I wanted something a bit broader than that. I found one of those irritating "click the link to go to the next 2 sentences" articles from natural news - it had pix with it all the time, so at least I know it wasn't pie in the sky. Finishing off later.

Been a bit under the weather with various infections, just getting over a sinus infection which had floored me and I was so thankful for all the preps dehydrated and canned so everyone had a good meal with minimal effort from me. I also seem to have an addiction to the Nākd cocoa and orange bars, absolutely face stuffingly delicious!

I have been saving all my e-survival and self help/ teach books onto USB. The reality is if I ever had to bug out I wont be able to carry all my 30-odd different survival reference books.
Also got my BOB (nearly) compartmentalised finally!
